Correct it's a forum , everyone has an opinion
I'm personaly a fan of budget engine . I always look at cost value of want I'm getting. Take a budget say ofna JL $187 shipped put another $80 for mod now $267 let's see I would would buy a novarossi p5xlt since were no longer in the budget range
engines dont win races, practice and setup does

I can fully appreciate your point of view....However to me a stock P5XLT is really tame on the power /performance scale, it would definitely be taking a big step back from my modded engine........ winning races is the drivers responsibility, no engine no matter how good is going to do it for you.....My modded engines are just as capable of winning races as any of the stockers out there, they just have a little more junk in the trunk for those who want something extra when they hit the trigger...its all personal preference !

We all know need practice and set up to HELP win races, you still need a good performer to make your skills shine .

WOW seems like the thread is going in another direction....:spidey:

it takes a full package to win races. for example this weekend at our big race at crcrc, I had the full package in the main however half way through that main I lost a valuble part of that package...the wing:eek: lol
yeah had the lead then grenaded my car and knocked the wing loose so i had to ride it out and settle for a 5th spot.
But anyway the engine was flawless all weekend, really wanted to turn the needles and let it eat but took my time with the break in process and ran it fatter than normal. its nice though to have such a solid engine that it can be raced as well as breaking it in.

as far as modding engines???? Totally personal preference. some like some dont. as with everything in R/C there is a catch 22 to EVERYTHING!
more power less= worse fuel mileage, more linear=less rip..and so on and so on.
I think the stock B5 is dam near as good as it gets out of the box, but there again I have never drivin a modded one either. I have seen the work of maximo on the track (a buddy of mine jammin) and it was awesome, however in my opinion also since along time ago I drove a jammin, those engines need all the help they can get to smooth it out. I am sure that he will come up with something with the B5 that some will like. But I think that Ron has done alot of homework and alot of listening and has put out by far the most economical, most powerful, most dependable engine on the market, and the fact that its 200 bucks is just a bonus! I mean lets face it those who have owned the engine, whether good or bad I believe would have paid more for the engine anyway because its just that good.

You guys are really making me excited to try this engine out ! its awesome that such a wicked engine can be had for such a good value...

When people are switching from $500 OS Speeds to B5's .And they are happy with the switch. That tells you something right there!! And thats the case with a few guys who race with me.:D

All I gotta say is that the b5 was nutty awesome for me on saturday. First round of qualifying at my club race on saturday had me 2nd over all behind new losi team driver (formerly jammin) Taylor James in expert buggy. I had broke the motor in the day before, tuned the HSN on a strip next to the track day of, and idle drop tuned the lsn, and got only 10 minutes of practice with the new motor before going into that round of qualifying. Of course, I'm no team driver so I doinked it all up in q2 and q3 and ended up qual-pointing my way to the bottom of the A and worked myself up a few positions in our 20 min A main before a 'factory assembled' drive shaft joint 'disassembled itself', taking me out of the race.

Gotta say though, no complaints on the b5. I had to get used to all the power on the bottom end. I came from a vspec and am running a jp4 pipe.

Is it binding in the car or out of the car?

Make sure your throttle linkage is perfect and not binding at all.
That is usually the culprit.

It was binding out of the box.

so far plack75's engine has been great running in through 4 tanks just that the carb is getting alittle hung up. It's the only thing keeping me from pulling the trigger.

Is everybody else's slide butta smooth going in and out ?

1armed1 04-05-2010 06:11 PM

Ok,

Contact Ron, he may want the carb sent to him so he can check it out.

I just installed a new 2010 model in my truggy last week and the carb was very smooth.

Just an update:

About 4 weeks ago I had broken -in the B5 and had some problem (flame outs and running a little hot 260)..........

I had a club race this past weekend and was running a two year old Ninja which I'm very proud of, if anyone here hasn't ran a Ninja before they have a very smooth and powerfull power band and can Idle for ever.

To make a long story longer...I started feeling the ninja to loose power by the second qualifier and noticed compression was not there anymore and had a flame out which had never happend before with the Ninja.

So i decided to give the B5 another chance.... fired it up and noticed that the idle would Fluctuate up and down and shut off. It was too late to switch back to the Ninja with little time left for the third qualifier to start. I decide to play with the Idle and sure enough the idle was set too low and LSN too lean, Idle 2hours in and lsn 3 out and problem solved.

Ran the third qualifier and Ran the 15 min main and no problems and came in at about 220*with a 1/4 of a tank left so I'm sure it could have gone close to 9-10 min on one tank..... felt just as good or better than the Ninja. Keepping in mind that it only has about 15 tanks through it and still needs to lossen up to really show it's full potential.

So far so good, now if we can get some stickers with the motor it be perfect.j/k
