Hm?????????????????????????

TheFcuddy 05-14-2010 08:34 PM

Just got my JS Full Mod in today from Absolutehobbyz. I bolted it up with an 086 pipe. I can't wait to run my truggy with this engine. I won't be at the Hut this weekend, going backpacking. Hopefully I can catch the next one.

toobad4u 05-14-2010 08:47 PM

I have the Full Mods in my buggy and truggy, both with the 086 pipes. These motors run great. You wont be disappointed with the combo.

O rings

Hi, are the 'O' rings in the low speed and high speed needle the same size? I just put in new 'O' rings in the HSN and they were extremely tight and hard to fit and I though maybe I had the wrong size.

pballer2777 05-16-2010 05:19 PM

ran my raceprep for the first time today. all i can i say is WOW!! it's in a losi 8t 2.0 with a 7mm insert, p4 plug and 086 pipe. got 11mins. love this motor. if u r looking for an awsome piece look no futher.

wallot 05-17-2010 03:17 PM

back home with FULL mod as race prep was not available (made a huge order at amain to smuggle back home)
will try it on Wednesday with my old EB MODS 2041 pipe so I can compare (already tested JP-4 and 9901)

THANKS.

Set the idle gap @ 1-1/4 turns in from JUST closed. be precises.
The HSN & LSN start at 1/2 turn in from flush.

I have been reading through all the post and just wanted to give my input and expierence with the JS EBmods motor.
1st off Peter Marten from TKO has been so helpful and has taught me alot over the past few weeks out at Revelation Raceway racing and testing.
I am currently running both Race Prep engines in my buggy and truggy.

My buggy is getting over 9 mins of run time at Rev and 11 at Hot Rod Hobbies(smaller track) The motor is super linear and smooth just rolls off the bottom and has no problem clearing the massive Triple at Rev from the inside line.
I am running an p4 plug, 086 pipe and EBmods 30% fuel. Idles like a champ consistant tune and pulls everyone down the straight.
Did i mention i have 5 gallons on this thing!!!!!

If you race at Revelation and need any help with your JS let know.

nitro crazy 05-18-2010 07:28 PM

two questions about this engine?? First where is the o-ring located on the idle screw if there is one, slightly melted my carb with a heat gun at the head of the idle screw just a bit. (kicked my own A__ after this). Second question all i have in my pit box are odonnell plugs 97t and 77t, the hobby shop was out today and i'm racing this weekend and i have got to choose between the two odonnell plugs, anyone know which would work the best.. thanks in advance....:tire:

Both plugs are too hot. The 97t is cooler. See if you can buy a P5 at the track. A P4 will get you by.

I went to a parking lot to get some basic tune and got into strange problems.

Idle is OK, acceleration is great but engine started to stall after like 1second on full throttle like it is very lean on the top. started to richen it up a bit and ended up with HSN one full turn from flush. with this engine seems ok.
LSN is at stock setting, idle is just a bit more open. (1/8 turn)

this is quite strange setting as my previous engine was like one turn in from flush (half turn from stock setting)

is it normal?

I have same setup as before. 30% OD, P5, 9901 pipe (I wasn't able to tune it with 2041)

TheFcuddy 05-20-2010 08:42 PM

I finally got a chance to run my full mod. It still had a ton of pinch, I heated with a heat gun and it started easily. I idled a tank through it and then tried to get some idea of where the tune was. I chased it around for a little bit but finally got it squared away. The LS was pretty close out of the box but the HS was too rich. I got it dialed in pretty good now. I ended up idling two tanks and then babied one on the track. This motor is awesome! It is so good in my truggy, it's super effective from bottom to top. I am not sure where the top is yet, it's just really fast. It ran beautifully after I spent a little time working it in. Run time seemed pretty good for such an unused motor. I can't wait to race with it this Sunday.

i dont think so but il b seeing edd today so il ask him

nitroal 05-22-2010 04:42 PM

becoming very frustrated with js motors. i have a race prep that will not hold a consistant tune. i had a full mod that the silicone came out of the crank. had my supplier send it back in to be re-worked and we were told they would be overnighted to us last thurs. so we would have them back in time for our first summer points race. i have yet to see my motor back. before the silicone came out, i was pleased with the full mod, but i believe the race prep will be going on ebay. after the full mod is used up,( when ever i get it back) i am going back to my old engine manufacturer. having the motor pre-broke in is great, but it is not worth the head aches i have had.

rallyebmx 05-22-2010 08:41 PM

I used 10 min pit stop to win the A today in buggy w/ race prep:tire::tire::tire:

wallot 05-23-2010 11:47 AM

we just were not able to tune the engine during weekend race. it was working great but after few laps it started to stall again after a second and WOT on a straight. it did not do it in every lap. strange. we went back to stock carb settings but no luck. something must be terribly wrong.

I am gonna try carb from the dead engine that worked great before the snapped conrod thanks to a rock accident.

kinda sound like it was fat up top making it load up a little to much on the streight then when you leave off it couldnt burn the fuel fast enough.

wallot 05-23-2010 12:24 PM

just to make it more clear. the straight was 2seconds on WOT and after 1s it started to stall.

tmperformance1 05-23-2010 04:48 PM

jbright is right, HS needle too rich. these engines tune backwards from most.
set the bottom and forget it. tune with the top.

found the same thing yesterday with a buddies full mod. kept flamin' after it started, notice raw fuel spitting out the stinger. started leaning it got better and better. then sat there and idle for like ever. threw it down busted the throttle went like a banshy. no more probs the rest of the 98 degree 55% humidity brutal day. very nice engine. mine will be on order soon as i can dump these speeds.

Yep, the motor has tons of power. Mine is just now starting to free up some too. Once it does, look out.
BTW Matt, when you made a couple laps yesterday the steering servo horn was stripped. That is why it wouldn't hardly turn.

Al...dont worry Ed has had my engine for over a MONTH!!! and Joe has yet to return my p.m I have sent asking about the engine last week....

TheFcuddy 05-23-2010 08:20 PM

I have almost a gallon through my full mod. The Hut was canceled today so me and my buddies just burned nitro on the track all day. I am going through P5's like it's going out of style. I will run a quart through the engine and give it a rest. I go back to start it and the plug will be dead. The coils are severing up inside the plug.

I have been having a hard time keeping this motor from stalling. If I come in for fuel and don't keep it clear than I will flame out as I drive down the ramp. The motor is running strong when it's running, temps are averaging around 215, it's got tons of top end. It's blowing smoke coming out of turns all the way down the straight. The coils look dry with some oily soot around the tip of the plug.

Here is my tuning rational and probably where I am going wrong. I feel like every time I come in for fuel the motor loads up. I have been leaning little by little on the bottom end to slow the fuel going in at idle. Should I be leaning the top? Leaning the top would limit the total amount of fuel going into the engine. The reason why I went for the bottom was because I felt like the top was clearing out well and the running temps were good.

I used all my P5's so a fellow driver was kind enough to loan me a P4. That was the last pint I ran on the motor but it was running real well with the P4, it never flamed out, idled well and flat out ran awesome for a good session of driving with my friends. These ailments I am suffering from are caused by me. I just need a little help from you guys to get me on the road to a solid tune. Maybe keep running the P4 and see what happens?

This motor is very, very fast, I have said this before but I have not seen the top end fully unravel yet. With the 086 pipe I have to drive it aggressively to keep it on the pipe. Nothing crazy, this thing just wants more all the time. The bottom end is a little soft, the mid comes on real strong and smooth and then it just screams out to the top all day. Is this the general consensus with this pipe and motor combo?

Let me know what you guys think about my plug popping and load up/flame out problem. I was running P5's with Byrons 25/11, temping around 215 at the Hobby Hut today.
