I know the roma is a 7 port and a 25. Lots of grunt which is great for a heavy GT. I am sure I will just end up buying a new motor.

if you have one on the shelf its worth the argument.. but chances are you will get turned down... to keep things simple just get a 5 Port

I agree, some time skirting the rules turns into a nightmare for everyone involved, and it will turn into a money race, IE stock racing. If you have the coin I would suggest a Fusion x5 lightning, FM. OR similar to what I run offroad on high traction big track, X5 Race FM with a filled crank from a +4 BTT. Its a screamer from bottom to top! But traction has to be very high as the low end almost becomes uncontrollable without a soft clutch set-up.

i sold a bunch of x5 lightnings and 9886 pipes to the local gt guys around here and they love em , apparently it makes a great gt engine as well

Monty, when will you have some more X5s? I was going to order an X5LFM this morning but your site showed out of stock.

Let me fix that

I have plenty of engines right now

FM versions are always built to order so allow a lil extra time for "the build"

Hey Monty,
looking for some advise on initial set-up and break in of the buku clutch. I searched a bit to no avail and I've seen you post it before, but can't remember for sure how it went and don't wanna screw it up... Thanks

Not only buku, any stock 3/4 shoe clutch break-in guide gonna be good

heres my method of use for buku komp shoes

loosen set screws until shoes are flopping loose
(if shoe does not come loose then usually what happens is the backside of the spring that sits behind the set screw is touching and not allowing the shoe to come free)
once shoes are loose , push outwards on shoe trying to push it away from the shoe it will touch in front of it , run set screw in slowly until the shoe just touches the shoe in front of it and has a small amount of tension , i refer to this as "the zero point" and all adjustments that i specify are made from this point

it doesnt matter which shoe you start with when using my method as once you have the staggered setting you will NEVER change just one shoe

with the komp shoes my base settings are 1 1/4 , 1 1/2 and 1 3/4 , adjust no more than 1/8th of a turn in either direction but do all three shoes at the same time !!!!

6061 shoes 1 1/2 , 1 3/4 and 2 , same applies here , no more than 1/8th of a turn in either direction , stiffer/tighter for higher grip , softer/looser for low grip

notes: be sure to use a new bell when using komp shoes , i prefer to clean inside of bell with some sort of scotch brite or equivalent and denatured alcohol , 6061 shoes i am preferring to use either new or a bell that has been used with komp shoes , do not change clutch bearings anymore than necessary , especially inner as you do not want grease to get on shoes . i usually change inner bearing every 1.5-2 gallons or so or whenever it feels like it needs be . when installing new cb bearings either blow grease out of inner bearing or run bearing for approx 10 mins , remove bell and clean any grease that has come out and reassemble . i prefer the latter

hope this helps you guys out

when you learn to use the buku clutch system to its full potential you have a very valuable tool thats worth every penny !!!
