Well I have to say from personal experiance that I have no idea how Monty can be so fast on the track! He spends hours and hours helping everyone else with all of their problems. I mean he probably spends half of his time at the track working on other peoples issues(myself included) instead of dealing with his own shit. Its probably his biggest down fall. If you see a light on at like 2 in the morning its got to be Houston! He is always the last guy around working on his stuff. We go to the track and he might get to fire up his stuff and get a tank through before its time to race if he is lucky.

P.S. Can you tune my motr for me?

Monty, what temps guns do you usually use? I came to realize my temp gun is reading a bit high. When my temp gun shows 260 degrees and water drops on the head fins take 15-20 seconds to evaporate that tells me the temp gun is way off.

Anyways, i just use the temp gun as a reference. So I've been practicing with my truggy for a couple days on an off-road track. It's a small track but mostly full wood out of the corners and traction is not the best. So there is much tire spin all over the track and WFO to make some of the jumps. Well here is the situation. I've had my buddies time my truck on the track with a Plus 21-5K--with two thousandths added to the head height. This is a standard plug engine. Well the engine is consistently getting 14-15 minutes runtime. And I mean over and over and over again. But like I said earlier I don't trust my temp gun anymore, and the water droplets on the top of the head take quite a while to burn off. The engine flat screams all over the track and it's just awesome. Idles great, good punch--not terrific but the clutch is setup soft for the loose conditions, and top end is like a missle. Whoosh!!! LOL.

14-15 min. ? holy crap !!!! are you serious ?

i use exergen gun only , try to keep engines under 260* . where they make power is where they make power .

you can really get 14-15 min. runtimes with a 21-5k in a truggy ?

smaller tracks usually produce better runtimes

Yes. I am serious. That's why I come to ask...and gloat a little. He he. But the real reason was to see if you used an exergen like my local pros. In fact one of the local hotshoes witnessed three full tanks of me driving just last night. He was just sure I was running the engine too lean. But I let him drive/tune/drive/tune several tanks through the truck.

He fattened the thing up to where it was a real pig on the bottom and would juuuust clear the doubles. Checked temps and my gun was showing 230ish. Then he would lean a little every couple of laps and worked the engine back to great bottom end---overshooting most doubles by a few feet---and my temp gun would show 270-280. But performing the water droplet test sure didn't look like 270. The droplets would stay on the head for 15 seconds average.

Just wanted to ask around. I'm actually wanting to video this tomorrow. A friend and I are planning to practice and I really should take my camera just to prove it. I didn't believe it at first.

I have a Futaba 3PK radio and used the timer on it and it showed 16+ till tank was dry one time. This however was on a flat black top road just to do some clutch testing. That's when I thought to myself "this friggin radio timer is waaaay off." So I checked by cell phone time and so did one of my buddies at the same time. We came to 15 minutes on both phones and the radio showed 15:20 or something.

Oh sorry.

Novarossi Plus 21-5K--obviously. But with two thousandths added shim height. Thirty-three is what it mic'd at.
Dynamite Platinum #4(Med.) plugs
Dynamite 053MR pipe and header
Losi 13T clutch bell--slightly worn
Losi 50T spur gear--not lightened
Losi aluminum flywheel
(4)Losi Green .036" 30deg clutch springs
(4)M2C Regular (Hard) shoes http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...%29-%28Hard%29

Losi 8-T 1.0 which gets regular maintenance after each big race and has been cared for. I keep the wheel and diff bearings packed with white lythium grease. I don't have the stuff in front of me. The truck is all stock setup with a one or two camber adjustments. That's it.

using a short plug ?

the losi truggy does get good runtimes with the tank spacer out for sure but that is a lot of runtime . interesting

No No the tank spacer is in place. RC Pro rules require it. I always practice like I would be at a race.

I also forgot to put down that I had added two thousandths shim height to my above post.

I didn't realize the Platinum #4 was a short plug. You mean like the O.S. short plugs? I'll compare as soon as I get home in a little bit.

The Dynamite plugs measure out to a bit over 3/16" You can see in the picture. The Dynamite plugs also have "R4" stamped on the side. I'm not sure who makes them but I think I've seen the "R4" before. Here's a couple pics. Might help.
