Monty (or anyone else)
LHS didn't have any byrons 30/11 that I normally run, they only had 30/9. How much castor oil (same stuff sold at CVS, walgreens, or any pharmacy???) should I add to bring it up to 11%. 9% just scares me. |

I am starting to have troubles again with my Cody King engine. This weekend I pulled it and put my old azz 7 port with 7 gallons on it instead of the new Cody King. I noticed that it gets hot and that is why I think it is quitting on me. I have gone back to flush and then adjusted it leaving it pretty rich but it still seems to get pretty hot, talking about 140 plus which is about 280-290 ish My 7 port is only running about 120 tops which is about 250. Can you think of anything that would cause this? Also will the head button fit on a losi engine? I have a 350 losi I thought about putting a turbo plug on it and then a better carb maybe the cody king carb and a good tuned exhaust might make it run a bit better but I am not sure if the button from the Orion will fit, both are .21

I've seen several guys running the JP-3 on Novas and Fusions. How does that pipe compare to the 2058?

I would say that a JP3 has the same powerband as a 9901 but you'll get much better runtime on a 9901 (you'll have to lean the HSN approximate 1/4 of a turn when going from JP3 to 9901). Haven't tried a 2058 pipe. |
Is there any way to get more top end out of my plus 21-4c? I'm running a 41029/2096 on a buggy. Also what is the recommended Venturi?

I run both the Orion 2013 and the 2058 pipes. It is broken in all the way, there is no pinch left but good compression. It runs like a scalded dog from start to finish, good smoke trail and no air leaks. I have sprayed it down while running and no change. I even actually got it to idle at the same pitch the entire time so I know it is not rich on the bottom and lean on top. NO idle or top end bogs. It is the fastest engine at the track, I have even ran it rich to see if it would cool down and it does a bit but it still just up and dies. I did as Monty said and pulled the carb out again and blew through it, then pulled all the needles out and cleaned them up. Hell I even changed the carb off my 7 port that runs strong after 7 gallons. The engine is still almost new, if you pull the head off the piston is even shiny still, the sleeve looks great, no marks, no bearings bad. Just soooooooo fed up with the Cody King engine, tempting on taking it apart and using it for parts, I have a new 5 port Orion so the parts should all interchange, and then even put the head button and make my stock losi a turbo plug engine if it will fit. This is the only engine I have ever had problems with, could there be a problem with the sleeve with the ports that you can't see by eye?

take out a .1 mm head shim............ too much clearance makes a engine run hot...the heat does not transfer out of the piston efficiently if the clearence is too great........... Alpa's run hot because of this too........ |
If you added a shim to the head button for break in purposes then as neal said you should prolly pull it out about now , if its still setup from factory "new" shimming it should be ok and you should be able to get it to run properly . Sorry i couldnt help ya out on what the shimming should be for that particular engine but i will see what i can find out for ya bro
