OK so my P5X ebmod busted a block this weekend, one of ears on the block is cracked off. This was an 05 EbMod REX P5X that I got brand new just a few months ago and only had 2.5 gallons on it.

First question, will a regular block work, or did EB used to make mods to these blocks as well? Second Q, will a later gen P5 block work if there wasnt mods made to the original? I figure the newest model P5 block wont work but maybe the gen just prior to this will. Any help would be great as I really want to run this thing some more, I think it was the fastest motor Ive ever had.
Just about any block besides plus 4 , toro nero , plus 21-5 (k) , plus 21-7 (fms) (bt) will work

As far as I know ed didn't do any mods to the actual block itself

Any p5,x,xs,xl,xlt from 03-10 , 821b , 421b, n21r limited will work

Houston...I'm picking up a new Nova +4 Team and wanted to ask a question about break-in.

I read your first post on the Break in bible thread. It says run the first 2-3 min on the ground and get temps up to 200f running "slightly rich".

Do you consider the +4 Team to be set "slightly rich" from the factory?

Just wanted to make sure as I'm still some what new to nitro engines.

Many thanks!

Monty,

Which button head fits with the P5's?

Only the p5, or any others?

Usually I lean low speed about 1/2 turn and high needle 1/4 turn and adjust idle to keep it running .

That's pretty normal as to my personal break in method , the info in the break in bible is a method that helps the new guys out and gives a guideline for everybody to follow .

I tried out a P5Xl block today and it didnt work out. The motor sounded horrible and didnt run right. I used the block, backplate, and head from the P5XL. It sounded like it was pinging or something, maybe the shims are off? My original block had an R21 on it and this one has S21, is that a no go? Any help would be great, Houston I think I might just send you 2 plus 4s and this ebmod setup and seee what you can come up with.

Right - just in case anyone still bothers

End of my N21R saga - bottom line is "never give up"

FINALLY clocking 10:30's plus in my mbx6. What it took to get there is a softer clutch, and a full car rebuild, including a brand spanking new set of bearings in almost all locations. But I don't think any of the bearings were really "shot", it's more like everything adds up in the end. The clutch is a BBF (very similar to a Fioroni Slitta). The exergen says 280F, but then again the mill purrs like a kitten, cranks out good HP (086HS) and decent torque (8mm venturi), does not show any erratic behavior at idle (stable, nice and crisp offtake even after waiting 15s+) and at least most of the power is going to the ground thanks to the slightly soft cluch.

The mill now has close to 2 gallons of fuel. Most of the break-in was done with a compheat (thanks monty!), so I think what happened is that it took forever to break-in (but well) and the mill wasn't fully freed up until now. The clutch obviously helps too, it all adds up.

Now that it works fine, it's a sweet little $135 mill (although in reality it fetches a bit more as it uses a +4 carb, but that one I already had anyway) - And it'll play against the big boys this saturday during the country's only 4h enduro race (where obviously brains and car prep matter more than raw power ).

Default I forgot to mention...

I got exactly 10 minutes runtime out of the p5 hes tuned engine with a 9853 pipe and ofna bent header and 7mm restrictor....

I ran the ten minute race with no pit stops and had not one drop of fuel left. Oh well it made 10 minutes, about 1.5 minutes more than stock... Sweet. Lovin it...

Not so nuts... I know of at least two that hit the 10:30+ mark - the first one is a BF with 9901, plus it screams like a banshee, then now this 21R of mine, which doesn't work as well to be honest... looks like 10+ becomes the norm when the thing is well broken in (and driven with care).
