These engines really like a much leaner bottom than some other engines, sort of like the OS. That's why we recommend the hot plug to clean out the midrange and just run better on bottom. Tune to scream on the top, and then lean the bottom just this side of lean bogging. One more tick rich and you're good. :) ..also, yes, the thing will come in lean with an empty tank and a little on the hot side, but that's normal. As long as it runs clean through the middle part of the tank, that's what you want.

one more thing.. I don't know anything about the O'Donnell fuel. Obviously I'm partial to Byron's, but we are running it by choice. I'm sure the O'Donnell stuff is fine, but some fuels might run a little different.

Just ordering MTE piston sleeve and rod after a year of racing on it.:cool:

What is the runtime on the discovery vs. crf 5 port both 2058 pipes?

Truggy or Buggy? I have had a bone stock Disco run 11min to dry in truggy, 10 is acheivable most everytime, but 11 is abnormally high. The bone stock disco in Buggy is dry at about 9:15min-9:30min. Both of my engines have 2013 pipes. CRF should run longer, because of the lightened crank, better timing, and higher horsepower.. Run time gains will be minimal in direct comparison, IMO but should be perceptible. 2058 pipe will also allow for slightly longer run times..

Pitpop, what size bearing is the rear bearing in the discovery motor? I can't nail down a size and I've been looking for a few weeks.. Thinking since both my Discos are still kicking nicely I'll add some ceramics and see how smooth they get..

Thanks, I am going to be running them in my mp9. I picked up a new cody king, and a used discovery. I also picked up a 2013, so i have a choice between the 2058 and 2013.

Almost everyone in the US prefers the 2013, but you might be one of them that likes the 2058 better.

I am looking for a new engine for both my 1/8 Hot Bodies D8 buggy and my 1/8 Hot Bodies D8T truggy. I need a motor for each vehicle (ie 2 motors). I have been told by several people to get a Novarossi P5. It will have the power for both cars and it is easily tuneable (I really don't know a whole lot on tuning nitro motors) and it holds its tune well.

I have seen the Orion Alpha .21 ABI Discovery 5-port, Buggy Engine. I am interested in it due to its lower price (about $70 per motor cheaper).
Will it be a good choice for both my truggy and buggy?
Will it keep up with the "fast" guys?
Will it get good fuel mileage (I was told to that I should get about 10 minutes with the Novarossi)?

If it will do all this, then what header/pipe combination would you recommend for each vehicle?

I run a Discovery in both Buggy and Truggy, and I think for new comer to nitro, they are easy to tune, and once tuned they hold that tune for a good long time.. You can find Engine and Pipe combos for around $250 if you do some searching. The recommended pipe is the 2013, IMO..

The Discovery engines put power to the ground very well, because they aren't overly powerful, so yes they will stay with the fast guys. BTW, the "fast guys" are fast because the know how to corner.. Raw speed has little to do with being fast around a track..

In the past, I have seen vehicles with the lesser priced motor lose out to the fast guys because they did not have enough horsepower. As soon as they bought a better motor, they could keep up.

I just don't want the engine be the thing that prevents me from winning.

Power is overated,Its in how its delivered.Ive seen more cases where too much power lost races than races lost because of not enough power:nod: No wheel spin will get you to point a to point b faster.
