Hey Pitpop I have a question for ya...

What is the difference between the Orion 5port CRF Alpha and the MTE?

johnnyboy 01-10-2011 02:31 PM

Anyone find the 2058 pipe on Horizons site? I can't find it and I am a dumb ass who thought it came with the 5 Port not the 2057....lol

Also Pitpop: what venturi do you guys run?

I don't have the MTE engine to compare, but probably not much. I do believe the Worlds edition engines will have some port alterations and crank changes tho (not to mention different crank case material).

We run 6.5...

@pit pop thanx i will do that.one more question for pit pop or anyone else wh wants to chime in.say i buy that world champion orion engine, and it is made by the best i'm sure why take it apart and seal the carburator and back plate? after paying that amount for one of the best engines in the world it should come sealed already until you get ready to tear it down to rebuild it. i believe although a rookie at this,i believe you would be messing something up that is perfectly perfect.does a ferrari need to be worked on when you first purchase it? not....so why mess with a work of art like the orion, novarossi, werks etc?

The engine should be fine right out of the box. I NEVER seal back plates, that is just a waste of time and makes a mess. I do check the back plate and head screws. I do put grease on the o-rings for the carb retainer, and the o-ring and neck of the carb where it slides in to the crank case. Also, small zip-tie around the dust boot where it seals to the carburetor body.

Thank you pit pop for all the info.. i got the crf abi for xmas and have almost a gallon thru it. So far i love the engine.. its my first attempt at a hi performance engine so im glad to c rhat itl take some abuse.. im runnin a 2013 on it and it runs awesome! Also using a p3 plug i read this thread front to back n found out a lot... i havent done a fuel mileage test.. but im at just under a half tank after a 5 minute qualifier.. im guessin 9-10 min with a not too free flowin drivetrane on my rc8b.

Thanks again n good luck

Hi Pitpop,

regarding to the 3-& 5-port CRF Alpha 21:

could you please explain, if there are any precautions for the front bearing, i.e. do you anything to prevent any dust find its way into the engine.

How often do you clean it(engine disassembled?) and when you would suggest, we have to replace it?

Many thanks
Regards
Wolf

Hi there. I really try not to take the engine apart at all. It really introduces dirt and such, so if I can just brush it off, I will do that. I only take them apart if it's absolutely necessary. Just keep running the engine. If it keeps idling and has plenty of power, it's fine. The engines are always fastest when they get older! We don't do anything special regarding the bearing, just brush the engine off being careful not to get dirt in the exhaust or intake areas.

any one now the difference betwen the CRF Alpha and Alpha engines ?

it's a bit confusing, i m looking for 2 configuration from Orion motors,

First: Technical track medium jumps/loose and easy 8min30 to 10 run time and Second: High speed track, big jump/ high grip and 7min30 fuel time minimum.

Winch engine are better for that ?

thank you ;)

The CRF alpha have the CRF cranks, ceramic bearings, and more aggressive porting (from comparing my 5-port alpha discovery and my CRF MTE).

The Alpha Discovery appear (just from taking it apart) to be a good club race/solid performing engine(steel bearings, but also a nice coat on the crank). I wouldnt expect it to have the all out power of my MTE, but its not gunna be a dog either.

I just mounted my new Alpha Discovery 5-port in my D8, and i am gunna break it in tomorrow. So i will post up how i feel about it.

IMO, if the Discovery makes good power and run time, it will be my engine of choice. But, the CRF's are amazing. The 5-port CRF will probably do anything you want and more. They are definately worth the money.

Pitpop,

I have about 5gal on my MTE and my front bearing is startin to dip a lil oil (not much, just a lil). I figure since its at 5 gal now, i will just rebuild it all the way here soon (gunna keep running it with the slight drip until it starts affecting the tune)

Is their anything special to the Orion ceramics that make me go "they are worth the $50 price tag over the others" (ie, apparectly reedy ceramics have larger races and smaller balls for better durability)?

Also, I am wondering if the CRF crank will fit in my Discovery? I never tinker with my engines, but i was curious if it would benefit it at all. My guess it will fit but the engine is not designed with it in mind so it would run like poop, but i figure you will no more than I.

I have one of each, The Orion WASP US SPEC, and a Alpha Z852.

The Orion is made under licsence in Italy, and the Alpha is Made by a relatively new manufacturer in China.

The Orion in general is a little more expensive, especially when comparing parts.

Both motors are great out of the box! For your circuit both will do just fine.

I have witnessed at my local races 1st place wins with both motors.

The choice is yours,
See you at the track.

Edited to remove links.

Thank you guys, last year i ran 2 MTE and i really liked the feel with these motor, the only problem was the run time only 6min30 on tech tracks in hot weather and 7min30 on high speed track.

Sorry for the confusion, i do not talking about the Alpha Engines, but in the Orion product, there is 3 type of engine :

CRF Alpha 3,5,7 ports
Alpha ABI 3,5,7 ports
and Discovery 3,7 ports
+ the MTE

So i m a bit lost lol

the alpha i was talking about is the regular non CRF orion alpha's.

I am gettin about 7:30-8:00 on my MTE.

They also have a Discovery 5-port. Which is what i will be running this weekend.

pitpop 01-14-2011 09:15 PM

Hey Guys. Just popping in real quick. We ran the Discovery 5 port today and I am so impressed with it! Very well behaved, and Cody said it had more power than the previous engine he was running. Tomorrow we race the Airtronics race at Rev with the Discovery. I'll let you know how is goes, but right now it's "two thumbs up."

The CRF crank should go in any of the Team Orion Alpha line of engines.

ALL of Team Orion's engines are made in Italy under the watchful eye of French designer and former World Champion Adrien Bertin. Please don't post links to the Taiwan Alpha Plus engines in this thread. It's totally out of line and confusing for people that want to know about Team Orion Alpha engines. Thanks.

Ran the discovery 5 port last night. Its so smooth :nod will run some more to give more info.very impressed:)
