I ran the Discovery this weekend as well and this thing is amazing. I finished a 10 minute main with 1/4 tank of fuel left. This was the 2013 pipe and stock 7.5 venturi. This was running in buggy. Very smooth powerband.
Really glad I made the purchase. |
what do you guys think of the alpha crf 5 port tebo motor or king motor coming out for a truggy?
|
OK so a couple of questions.
1. Is the engine ORI80677 the same as the engine in the combo pack ORI80678? (Honestly from everything I can see, it is the same motor) 2. Half the descriptions on this forum say that it is a standard motor, metal bearings, non-ABI tuned; however, in 90% of the desciptions listed on product info it states : "The Team Orion Alpha Discovery 3.5cc 5-port off-road engine comes with fitted ceramic bearings and an optimized crankshaft. Designed by world champion Adrien Bertin, the Alpha has all the great features of a competition engine combined with a low budget price." and includes the "ABI" in the title... 3. Now if the two motors listed above are the same and I buy one, I plan to run this in my MBX6 with the 2058 and MBX6T with 2013. Does it have the grunt to move the truggy with enough authority? While I may not acheive 10 minutes on a tank as I have a heavy finger, would solid 8-9s be reasonable? If so what restrictors for buggy/ truggy? 4. Will I need to buy the mugen specific manifolds from nova to make these combos work? I have run Nova, Werks, EB Mod JS, and Reedy... the only one I can truly say I have been happy with is the Nova 21+4C and the Reedy when it was <4 gallons... how do these budget minded mills compare? |

(but everything is done really well) 3. I see no reason it wont move your truggy around. Mine is making about the same power of my CRF. i havent quite got a good tune on mine yet due to tinkering with fuels, but i am able to get 8min on mine so far. Will only get better. 4. no idea on the header |

Hey Greg, does your LHS have any of the combos in stock.. Discovery and 2058 pipe?
Even with the 2013, fuel economy was great. |

Yes, we are selling the combos for $239.99. The combos we got in have the 2013 pipe. I have heard the tuning is better with the 2013.

Hi Guys,
Wonder if you can help me. I have got Team Orion CRF ALPHA 5port fantastic engine. What i was wondering can we change the button head from a turbo to Non turbo? Would it cause any engine issues too? The reason i ask is here in the UK it's like £10GBP for just one plug but Non Turbo ones like half the price i dont mind loosing abit of performace also found Non Turbo plugs make better tune over turbo plugs i found too. Any advice would be great if someone could also tell me the part number i need for the button head be great |
Bump for a good thread..
I know i said I would be ordering mine a few days ago, but a few things got in the way.. With some luck I'll order it tomorrow, Monday, and get to break-in next weekend.. |

It is what both Jared and Cody ran at the nitro pit in truggy.. Jared TQed and Won, and Cody Qualified like 4th but had a hub problem..
These engines are tailor made for a truggy application, as you can put the larger carb insert in if you dare! :D mucho power! |

Sorry Paul I did not mean to short change Cody.. I was going off of memory and it is usually pretty fuzzy if it has been more then a few hours.. LOL
The iFMAR ladder system suites him to a tee, everyone has to race into the main! |

I would hardly say you short changed him, it's all good.. :D Cody normally doesn't qualify great but then he's there at the end. We're hoping to improve in the qualifying area. :)
