Just a quick question.

My orion 5 port has been running really well lately, ive got about a gallon on there. However this weekend the engine decided it would throw a hissy fit. My problem is that when I hit full throttle the engine just cuts out.

The engine has not missed a beat until this weekend then went a bit funny. My needles are running about 1 turn in on both Lsn and Hsn.

Check/Change you glow plug.. It also sounds like it may have broke in, which could also be the reason for the flame out, mega rich..

The plug was changed to a new one just before, is it possible that the plug could be broke so early in its life? Running a os p3.

There is quite a bit of smoke coming out, so could be time to get it leaned it off

i am quite a bit of problem with my crf 3 port. It was running fine till it broke in and now i cant get a tune on it for nothing. It may idle a bit on the box but when you get to running it and you stop it dies. My friend took it apart and i watched nothing is wrong with inside of the motor. He cant tune it and i cant tune it either. My friend has been racing for 20 years. I have changed plug and tank and fuel lines and the clutch bearings are new.

Hi,
I already did this question on another Orion thread (dedicated to 3 ports) but i had no answer, so i try also in this one, sorry if you already saw it.
I just got a very good deal on a combo Orion Alpha .21 ABI Discovery Buggy 3 Ports Engine (ORI80657) and Orion EFRA 2013 Tuned Pipe (ORI88217).
Any one know something about the Discovery engine serie i'm not able to find a lot of info online....
The only thing i was able to understand is that they seems to be an "old" Economic line.
I was looking for an easy, smooth, low fuel consumption engine for my buggy, hope i did a good move.
Any tips, advice or info about this engines would be apreciated.
Thansk a lot.
WWD :)

Just take your time on break-in and get a nice tune on it, and you won't be dissappointed..

HAHA You're funny..

Too Many factors to say where to set your carb.. Not to mention I honestly haven't a clue how far in or out my needles are. Tune changes too often to beable to say this is right or wrong..

i know that i just want to get it close. hell i cant get it to idle for nothing. It was fine til it lost its metal pinch now it wont run. I have tried everything. fuel lines tank flush with both needles then tuned. new glow plug. It has been taken apart and nothing is wrong with it. It is just being very finicky now

DO this. Reset both Needles to fulsh.. Remove your Venturi, and set your idle gap to .5-.7mm. Tune the bottom end only for a good consistant Idle. Beaware it is very easy to go too far, and be lean on this step. You literally want to stop as soon as it will hold an idle and not die.. Drive car on track after getting it warmed up until you have good straight away performance. Once you get that recheck idle, it should still be good, but might need a tweek one way or the other, and you shuold be set. If this doesn't cure the flame outs, you have a leak somewhere, and most likely need to seal around carb and rear plate..

I recently got a new Orion motor .21 crf alpha motor/pipe combo setup. I did break in by the book, started to tune the motor and that's when I found out I had no pinch...out of the box the motor had a lot of pinch but only after 1 quart of fuel nothing....now the motor still starts and idles, but once I get it on the ground it has no power, will not respond to adjustment on the needles, its just fat fat fat...check fuel line, fuel tank, carb is tight and sitting right, changed plug. Now my question is should I be concerned about the pinch problem or is this normal, because my jammin motor ran for gallons with no pinch ?

Now I started looking around online to find out the motor is not forsale anymore.... ORI80678, this makes me wonder if there is a reason for this. And now that is no longer available, I can't get parts for it....

Your engine seems to be still available for sale in the Orion site as by the link below, were you can find all the parts lists and exploded view:

http://www.teamorion.com/combo-alpha...ur-en-2-3.html

Looking at the part # your engine should be a Discovery 5 port (not CRF) and is similar to mine that is the Discovery 3 port. An economic line....
I just finished to break in mine and i don't have much experience with Orion engines but i think that spares can still be found.

Hope this help.

Thanks for the link, I am still concerned about why my pinch/ compression just disappeared after a quart, I was doing the heat cycle break in, I am going to play with the motor today more but if can't get it to hold much of a tune I think the compression issue is the problem.
