Hay ya'll,

Just picked up a Hobby 9 for my Z01-b. Any tips for break in? I'm gonna try my dynamite 053 pipe on for now, anyone else try this combo? I run on a medium sized track with tight infield and a couple of sweeping turns. Also, what is a good plug for this motor in really hot/humid conditions. Will O'donnell plugs work in this motor? I have a couple of 99's lying at home. Thanks for any info!

im figuring that 99 is odo99t. thats the far best turbo plug iv used on anything it will fit. in my mod turbo button s5 iv tried every pipe and from full to empty tank with consistancy both the 083 with short header(smooth powerband,great runtime) and 2045&192mm header(very strong,10+min runtime) are best. with your hobby nine(being the big new rb engine!) id say 053 might be perfect. my s5 naturally lacked top end. your hobby nine i hear is about the same as a cbb6 and lacks a little bottom. that 053 should be great. iv seen a lot of c6 guys run jp1 or an rb pipe.

heat it up and go. break in shouldn be too bad. that hobby nine should be awsome

No my Hobby 9 is a standard plug version. I got the odo99. I'm hoping that 053 works good.

Unless they are coming out with a new one, the magnesium heads were limited production a few years ago. I have one but I don't want to mess it up.:p

Yup, that head came out a couple years ago. Good luck in finding one, I searched for awhile to find one. They are nice, it is 1 ounce lighter than my C6BBT stock head.

I am running a S5 which is the same as the hobby 9. Iam using a dynamite 053 and o99 plug. IMO it is a great setup. The o99 plug is the only one my motor likes and it last forever. I tried using an os plug and the thing kept dieing. the 053 is just about right for this motor and on a medium size track you won't be giving up anything.

i have been a fan of RB engines for a long time but i am losing faith fast. the piston rist pin clip came out of my newest ws7III with only 2 gal through it. i understand things happen and can live with that but what really bugs me is that twice in the last couple of months i have tried to contact RB and they don't respond. 1st time i was looking for a part # for a replacement screw for the carb and i left a email message and recieved no responce(2 months ago) and this time when i called the message said to leave a voice mail but the mailbox was full and it wouldn't let me. when i spend this much money on a race engine i do expect some level of customer service. i still believe RB engines are some of the best built but i think i will be looking for another company if things don't improve.
i hate to flame a company on line but feel they need to know how their customers feel and if they don't answer there phone or emails i don't know any other way.

The best way to reach RB, is email, [email protected] He's the new RB-USA Manager, this is his personal email, and he does respond, he's still trying to clean up the mess that the previous US distributors made. He's a good guy, was with Traxxas for about 18 years.

From the moment that forum went down, which was the only source for any information regarding RB products, things became very difficult RB fans. And it only leads people away eventhough quality is were it was.

i understand having problems but after several months it looks like they should be able to aswer the phone or an email to the posted company contact #s. i work in a hobby shop and run a off road track and am very busy so i don't have much time to spare but i try to return calls and aswer emails. i just think it may be time for me to try another engine manufacturer.

i also love my RB's. But ever since Rody left and they closed the forum they seem to have dropped off the pace worldwide.

It is really sad you guys are coming down on the man. He is trying his best, I don't think there would be a problem if there wasn't a big release of new engines and the demand wasn't so high. I work at a hobbyshop too and new RB retailer. He has been great to us, I sold all but one of the nine engines I ordered in the last two months. I tried to order a " Hobby" 5 port and we did not get it, already backordered. So I don't believe it is his fault I think it is RB's in France getting the engines here.
