Joe - I have been to Ed's shop during works hours thanks! Joe, your my pal but please let me answer the Ex-tech questions. Your not running our engines in 09, you running Ed's.. You are helpful in many cases but let me take it from here.. :P

Matt - that is an EB.. I havent done any 2.0 yet power boxes yet for Amain.

jpalessi 01-02-2009 08:19 AM

;)

MattP 01-02-2009 08:33 AM

Thanks Chad for clarifying that for me.

Guys I hope my question didn't spark anything bad between ya'll. I was just wondering if the box sets that Amain had in stock were done by ED or by Chad.

I have met Chad before and he is a great stand up guy. So anyone reading these posts please don't take anything as negative from him because it isn't. He is just trying to clear up a few misconstrued things about the Extech engines.....

Chad Phillips 01-02-2009 08:34 AM

Joe -THANKS PAL! :)

Matt - nothing you did..

Trinity's customer support is second to none. Chad will help you with whatever problems/questions that may arise. Don't let the haters get you down. Most of these guys just follow other people around and claim to know everything. Don't be fooled by the imitators.

I don't care what bench's you use or if the motor has been flow tested or not. I know the EB Mods never returned a single phone call or email for a team driver over a premature rod failure. The flow test sure didn't help out any then. Not sure why some of these guys even have "Trinity" in their sig's.

You can try this: Break a Go-Tech and call Ed.....then try to break an X-tech and call Chad. Tell me what happens. Not bashing Go-Tech (I'm friends with some of their drivers) but I will be the first to say that EB Mods customer support is sub-par to non-existent. Ed is a very nice guy but just doesn't offer customer support.

The X-Tech 2.0 is the shizzle. Can't wait to try the "big boy" on it.

franklucas 01-02-2009 12:02 PM

At the roar race in Pa this past summer I had recently purchased my Extech and was having trouble tuning. Ed from EBmods was racing at this event, and being the "Trinity Engine Man" I asked him for a few minutes of help after I had completed my first qualifer. He said sure I'll be right over where are you pitting? Well the day went by and right before my main Ed finally came over and told me to send it in after the race and left. It took him over 3 hours to stop by beleive me he was not overly busy I was fuming and watching him just sit and talk most of the time with his buddies. i got over it but now the posting on here kinda brought this back to mind, Chad Phillips and Trinity customer service and ease of contact is second to none as I have expierenced in RC in the past 15 years or so.(AE is pretty ggod as well 4 free fuel tanks just by placing emails 2 buggies 2 truggies) I am sure Ed is on top of his game when it comes to engines, but knowledge is only a small part of the total picture customer support is hugh when it gets down to it!!!!

C-Web 01-02-2009 02:23 PM

just an idea,,,start a seperate ebmods thread see how many questions ed answers on here or anywhere else ...trinity customer service is #1! and so are the guys that work there. just my opinion

zixxer 01-02-2009 02:27 PM

eb mods better stock up on o.s. carbs and con-rods if there selling them gotechs:nod:been round the bend with the go's there decent but there qc is pretty rough ....on a lighter note my.24 pre-run went off to powerhouse rc performance today ...cant wait to get it back ....:tire:

He's not? I assumed that's why Ed kept my carb that I sent in for warranty work as opposed to sending it back to me with no explanation or reply. Figured he was keeping spares for his friends. I usually refrain from the online discussions such as this but I wouldn't do business with EB mods again and I don't care how good his motors are. I've dealt with Russell from Racefactor Industries before and he to has excellent customer service like Trinity's, so I would suspect that the EB Mods/Racefactor relationship won't last long.

EBMods 01-02-2009 03:00 PM

Frank,

First to clear a few things up. Your engine was a stock Extech that was not shimmed properly from the factory. Trinity already had the ExTech engines in stock before I signed on and all the engines that were sold before that were shim wrong from the factory. I personally went to Trinity and added .004" shims to all the remaining engines after I signed and was able to blueprint the engine and that's when I found the problem. I mention this to you at the track and that's why you would need to send it in so maybe Chad would replace it, being everyone at Trinity knew about the engines not shimmed correctly were going to be problematic.

What people don't understand is I didn't have the power to authorize a engine replacement, everything had to be cleared through Trinity. I sent reports to Chad on every engine and it was up to him as to what to do.

Here's a link to every engine or part I received with pictures and description, same pictures I emailed to Chad for review.

franklucas 01-02-2009 03:35 PM

Thats fine Ed, I did not have a problem with the description or the solution you gave me. I just was a little ticked that it took you all day to come over. You could have been busy, though it didn't look like, or it could have been a honest mistake and you forgot? You cleared up what was wrong with my engine, but that wasn't my reason for the post. It was a customer service post.

slaytanic 01-02-2009 04:10 PM

Well I don't see my name on the list. And I know Ed recieved it because I talked to him. I never heard back from him.

Chad replaced the engine with a new Fullmod 2.0. Thats customer service!

I'll be off Sunday to give it some fuel with the new Bigboy I just got!

Chickenman....See if you can make to LH Sunday. Maybe we could get the hippie to come out. I'd like to see the .24 run. I have some Extech #5's for you to try. They last me forever! Thats why I give em away.

So if these engines are Sirio based, I'm also guessing the Big Boy pipe is also the same or similar as the Sirio 2056.

Cheers

Anyone?

franklucas 01-02-2009 04:25 PM

I would bet it is.

WideOpenThrottle RC 01-02-2009 04:33 PM

Yes the motors are Sirio based as are the new bat pipes.

Sorry dude, cant make it there this weekend, gonna hit the new track in Indy tomorrow. Can you make it to LH to run any practice during next week? I am gonna try to get there once during the week and again on Sunday.

slaytanic 01-03-2009 05:13 AM

Thats a sweet track. Weird pit space. I'll try to make it out this week sometime. I have a baby coming in 2 weeks so I will be out for a while soon.

Joe Allesi--Your a funny guy, but your as big of a let down as ED. rcteamdriver.com????? What happened there? Not even a callback. No surprise. You apparently have never played with West Virginia boys before.

Don't bash on public forums. you have my phone number so you get a grip honey!

EBMods 01-03-2009 10:38 AM

Chad
You've only been to the shop one time, that was last year after Motorama almost one full year ago. Please don't say you've been here other than that. It's not true, and I will correct you on exaggerated truths!
My break-in is not Wide Open as you say, so again please don't talk like you know otherwise.
Who were the 5 Team Drivers that the rods "premature" wore? I never received engines while working for Trinity that had premature rod failures, NEVER! So if you now have the intelligence to determine rod failure from break-in process after I leave, please give me the specs your using, and method of measuring to determine this. I've always broken-In team engines for Team guys and close friends over the years including yourself. Way before offering any pre-run engines for sale. And everyone knows including yourself engines that I break-in have been proven to last longer and make more power. That's the reason I decide to offer pre-run engines, because warranty claims were zero...... Just the opposite of what your saying now.

Quintin,
You forget I QUIT Trinity,, not fired or anything like that. I'd still be doing the engines if I didn't leave. I left because of the BS that goes on at Trinity, from back stabbing to passing the blame. Yes, I wanted to replace your carb even though it was not a Warranty issue. But when I made the request I was told NO. The agreement I have with Russell at Race Factor and the Go Factory is nothing like this. Please let me know what you want me to do? I'd like to make things right with you.

Frank,
Sorry, I didn't make it earlier that day. I was under the impression you weren't running the engine. I just assumed you weren't running it. I'm sorry....

Every engine would of been like that if I didn't diagnose the problem, then add the extra shims to the stock engines at Trinity, and have the factory make the adjustment on the new production. But that's easily over looked after the problem is fixed.

franklucas 01-03-2009 10:44 AM

thanks ed like i said earlier i am happy i received one of the older .24 extech and it was broken in by you.

It could be used as a weapon....and a homely one at that. The performance is where it's at. It's priced pretty well too. The fellows you finish in front of can make fun of the looks of this pipe all they want. This pipe gives new meaning to the phrase, "Beaten with an Ugly Stick". :D

You spend the extra $30.00 if you gotta have it NOW (and/or are dying for the high-pollish look). :D

For me, I'll wait for the cheaper Trinity version to come out.

slaytanic 01-03-2009 07:46 PM

The pipe is just as polished as the Sirio. Don't let the picture fool you. And it is not HUGE. Same size as any other. Just a different shape. And it doesn't say Big boy on it. Thanks god. Sweet azz pipe!!

franklucas 01-03-2009 07:48 PM

the pic looks a little dull, looks like clear coated unpolished aluminum. Must be bad pic. do they seem durable? or is the aluminum soft? thanks the stinger seems nice and short that good.

franklucas 01-03-2009 07:49 PM

its 49.99 at horizon hobbies but of course their out of stock.

cdbias 01-04-2009 06:07 AM

You guys call Chad at Trinity. He has some good deals on current version of the "Big Boy".

chickenfarmer 01-04-2009 08:34 AM

got to race my new .24 last night. WOW, on a large indoor high traction track I had plenty of power to clear every jump and very controllable. I was able to TQ and win, after running for 30 minutes straight, and by far having the fastest truck down the straight away, The motor temped at 160. Awesome motor and I am very impressed!

franklucas 01-04-2009 09:19 AM

is there a temp. that should be a minimum? To get proper metal expansion so you dont prematurely wear out the engine. Other racers would have told me that 160 is too low and to add aluminum tape to block some of the fins on the head. to get it around 190+. thanks

zixxer 01-04-2009 09:28 AM

for break in you really need to get the motor to 220 at least ...and then back down to ambient temp....this will allow metal parts to expand and contract ....the heat cycle break in method is by far the best ....as far as 160 for a race tuned motor coming off after a main ...i have ran for 3 years and have never had nor seen a motor that would run at a temp of 160 ...case in pint was blipping my grp around yesterday and was temping 160 cuz its starting to break in ...i had to lean that sucker up a few hours just so it would move ....im sure there is some conditions where a motor might run at that temp ...just not sure what and where
