I got a Trinity Platinum A. Drake in a deal for a Truggy. The engine maybe has 12 tanks on it. I have no idea how to tune this engine. I'm not even sure what the base settings are. I took it out and ran it today it ran fine. I tuned it to be rich so not to mess it up. I didn't get more than to tanks through her before I discovered the front diff needs rebuilding. Brought it home took the head off and the piston is clean and shiny still. It gets stuck at TDC so I know it's a fresh engne. Just need some help and some suggestions. It sure sounds mean as hell.

Well i really like what im hearing from this engine. But, im looking between the .24 or .21 (stock, not modded versions) for my kyosho st-rr truggy, which would be better? Oh and what dynamite pipe?
*Bout to put this engine on layaway at my hobbyshop! Is this the best engine for the price? |
i think so for 229 base model it just plain rips and low temps and good run times. i think i heard the dynamite 086 but the trinity big boy pipe is the one to run!! i ran a jp3 last year and ed from eb mods told me it was robbing my engine of hpa nd runtime i was getting like 8.5 - 9 minutes a tank and i thought it was fast. this year i am running the trinity pipe and i hear i will get +10 runtime and more power, cant wait. I have the .24 for truggy and the .21 for buggy.
|
If you run on a large open tack go for the .21 with either the 086 or the Bigboy. For tight technical track slap in a .24 for the low end grunt. Spend the extra and get the prerun version. Trust me, it is worth it's weight in gold.
|
thanks slaytanic i did mean 086:)
|
I would go with 24 for truggy and 2056bb, you can still gear it up if you need extra speed, and you wont loose too much low end grunt vs21 with lower gearing.
|
+1 on the 24.

Is the trinity extech .24 better then the go tech .21 5 port?? Can i run any kind of fuel i want and an 086 pipe on th prerun version? Im goign to order today at the hobbyshop so please help!!!

Definitely better than the Go 5 port, higher quality motor that get's better fuel mileage and has more power. I have a go 5 port as a backup backup and while the motor is good for the price the extech motors are in a different league. |

the .21 race prep is on back order... Should i just order the .24 race prep(both 249)? Now these have been broke in so you can drop them in right??? And do you have to run 30%?
Or should i just wait for the race prep .21? |

that is a Picco motor.... run only Picco plugs.... they love the 086 tuned pipe, and they tend to go lean once they warm up.. so set intital settings rich and you will find once the motor fully warms up it will come into tune....never attempt to tune the motor before its fully heat soaked....Picco's are more sensitive to this then any other motor I have found...... |

Took advantage of some decent weather here in CT. Fired up my Ex Tech. I do have to work on my cold weather tuning skills, but all in all she ran well. Looking forward to the first indoor event next week @ RCX in MA :sneaky:
Thx again Chad :) |

No they don't include a plug, I've had the best success with the Extech #5 or the OS P4...

I belive pipes will be available Jan 9th? I will have two Extech FM 21's with Bigboy pipes coming tomorrow to do some testing. I'll let ya'll know what's up. I am interested to see the feel of the FM's versus the two EB Extechs I had.
|
This is the version of the .24 i want right??? And the .24 is best in truggy with 086, not the .21???

Extech Clutch
Does anyone run the extech clutch. I have one and need new shoes but can't find them. The clutch appears to be same as the Fioroni Vario but am not 100% if the shoes will fit. Oh yeah, I run the .24 in my trug and it screams.
|
FYI - the .24 is not like a .28.. has a touch more power than a .21 yet same runtime as .21.. I would only use the big boy pipe with any of our engines in buggy and truggy...
dhopkins - those shoes will work.. |
just received my .24 pre run today not the extech 2 as advertised by amain but I guess their the same except ed preran this one in and i do like the ebmods stickers lol. nice engine!
|
So these Extech's are Sirio based? I've just commenced break-in of a Sirio Kanai Evo4 STI, with Sirio 2056 (bat pipe) and am extremely impressed so far, and would like to run a similar set-up in my ST-RR. So if these engines are Sirio based, I'm also guessing the Big Boy pipe is also the same or similar as the Sirio 2056.
Cheers |

New to the Forum
I just got my .24 pre run today. I want to know which of these pipes I have would be best until I get the BB from A-MAin. JP3 or JP4.
Also Amain did not have the glows. I picked up a P6 "hot" plug I figured a p3 WOULD BE TO HOT. My LHS has order some P4's. whats your thoughts on thes plugs? Should this pre-run motor get 10 plus min. with the venturi supplied? Thanks |
did u get a dyno sheet? i did its just to light can't read it. I ran one tank today wrapped the head alum. tape and putted back and forth on the street max 3/4 throttle. temped around 195-210. much power even rich like it was. Two more tanks and I will start to lean it out a little. I ran the p4 plug. THe only thing i didnt like is I don't have my Big Bat muffler LOL.
|
Team Chambers, I ran the .21 in my buggy at the RCP TX Finals at Ncontrol last month. I used the Trinity #5 Turbo plug and it was great. We ran 7 min quals with a hot lap and I still had 1/4 tank or more of fuel left at the end, couldn't get the engine to hit 200 deg. I tried ordering the plugs through the LHS but the distributor said they were back ordered, so I got mine direct from Trinity. Don't know about those pipes. I used a Sirio 2013 on that layout and was very happy with it but it gives you a lot of grunt. 2056 is also supposed to be good, and the Dynamite 086. If you can lay hands on one of those until you get the BB, any of those pipes will probably work better than the JPs.

cjtam....I thought your usernamer loked familiar. Thanks for the input

97T's are to hott.. Run a OS P4. how do you figure on the 97t ......its a medium glow plug .....have you ever run one ....or are ya just thinking its to hot ..... i have had good luck running them in medium plug applications ...on the other hand i have always had bad luck with o.s. plugs .....i think people run them because of there availability and nothing else ...as they are more expensive and dont last near as long .....just my .02 ....not trying to confront ...i just wanna get my hands on your secret glow plug heat decoder ring :lol:and yeh being that the prerun has no modding i could give 2 dumps weather its accurate or not ...im sure the extech will do well  |

When we were waiting on the ex tech plugs from the factory, we try the OD plugs and they were to hot... As for you having problems with OS plugs IDK....The OS plugs are expensive for a reason...They are the most consistent, long lasting plugs out in IMHO..
Ask Chad what he runs..>>OSP4<< Just because OD package says medium, doesn't mean it's a med compared to OS, or other brands.. I would compare a 97T to say a OS P3 or hotter..Good Luck ! |

poor power, poor run time, popping plugs trying to get a good tune... IDK why Chad told you that unless he just forgot... The ex tech plugs work great, and are cheaper for sure, but the OS p4 will make great power and last longer... Also will be much more consistent in glow temp from plug to plug.. as for how we test glow temp on plugs, i can't get into that online..BUT WE DO! lol :sneaky:
thanks for the quick reply ...now when you get the patent on the super secret glow plug decoder ring then you mak esure and tell em zixxer came up with the name :sneaky:...thanks again buddy ...and hey what ambient temp and humidity yall run in most of the time  |
