I tried a couple of different pipes that I have seen reccomended on here. I used a 053 and a 086 made by Power Racing (I got a deal on both). I ended up going with the 053 at the small track I run at and think the 086 may be better suited to a larger track. Question is with so many mfg.'s now making pipes, how much different is, say the 053 between them all. Seems to me that the Nova 9853 and the Grp 2053 for example should be pretty close to one another. I had thought all pipes were spec.'ed by EFERA for the most part. Any help would be great because the price differance between some pipes is alot for what I would think are the same pipes.

porkchop 08-05-2008 02:14 AM

i have a stock exteck. it got the 2013 pipe.

GRP 2053 is in no way related to the 9853/053 pipes...the GRP pipe is a very restrictive 3 chamber pipe...

C.Poh 08-05-2008 11:24 AM

also try using differant restrictors i had a 8 in my modded and went to a sirio 7 and i got more run time ...i ran a 15 min main pitted at 6:50 and ran out at 17:40 with the temp at 176.....
nova 9853 pipe and p3 plug...

one more thing to think of i guess some rules are changing here in the near future with pipes from what the guys at fusion told me is the nova 9853 will be illegal for the 09 roar rules its to load so their making people switch to a 3 chamber like the grp pipe...boooooo lol if anyone knows about this let us know more....

just more ways to suck money from the consumers..... too loud LOL

wingracer 08-05-2008 11:54 AM

That doesn't surprise me. The question is will they require 2xxx number pipes or go with full IFMAR rules and require 3xxx number pipes?

chad, i was racing at revelation tonight and i believe one of the trinity guys called you about my engine. It appears its leaking fuel out of the carb boot. I cleaned it up before the last heat and again before the race and both times there was buildup of muck where it appears to be leaking. If you can pm me your number, or address. I leave Tuesday morning for a week, so i can just send the engine in for an inspection if that's ok with you guys.

On another note, thanks to the guys at revelation for helping me out and pitting for me, made my first race experience nice and fun! i was trying to look for you before i had to leave, my friend was in a hurry and i didn't get a chance to thank you guys. :tire:

here's an update, this should give you a better idea of what the issue is, i took the engine out, looks like its definitely leaking from the carb boot. i also snapped a pic of the front bearing, it appears the fuel was dripping from the carb down to the bearing as well.

I would inspect your carburetor boot for any holes. You may have stabled it when tuning your low end. If no leaks in the boot, id say your front bearing may be leaking.

Boot looks good, there are no holes.
Front bearing leaking???? with a total of 9 tanks maybe, including the 5 from EB Mods...
thats not a good thing

franklucas 08-05-2008 07:13 PM

I have the extech and it has never run well on a hot plug example the p3 p4. the plug lasts for a tank and a half or two. i run trinity plat. 30%. it seems to distort the coil alot. currently i am running a os p7 and it seems ok so far but i am not getting good run times? is this odd?

how wet is it? send pics

i have already cleaned it all down Joe
i usually do that every weekend after racing
it was about as much as the pics from the
other guy...maybe just abit less honestly
motor ran fine, but the build up on the carb
area was just odd
i dont think its the front bearing either
i didnt see any residue and build up underneath
the motor when i pulled it

Teufel Racing 08-05-2008 08:49 PM

Thanks for the help on the pipe comparasion in reference to the 053's, yes you too Max. I'll see how the 053 and 086 I have now fair next month at a two day event on a much bigger track than my local club track.
The JP3 I had in the buggy never felt like it was doing the job, not too sure why, but the motor didn't want to work well with it. I do know the OS motors I was running seemed to run well with the JP3. Thanks again.

This was posted on the Ex-Tech thread - Sgrid

Since you guys don't really check out that thread, or at least I haven't seen you guys on it, I thought maybe I'd help out posting the question here, had something similar happen to me.......

"Ed I got one your motor a few weeks ago it got less then a gallon on it.
it is the stock ecteck It has very soft pinch when we broke it in. it
now has noting left. It run 5 or 6 good lap in my truck then the bottom
end just disappears out no where. I was wondering what the deal is did
I get a bad one. We ran 6 tanks at 220 thought it then race tuned. had
2013 pipe and p6 plugs it pops a p3 with in 30 sec just idal Were also
not getting the run time most people are seeing were lucky to go 7.5 in
a buggy and 8.5 in a truggy. please let me know what were doing wrong
call me if you like 440 315 1487"

Chad Phillips 08-06-2008 05:44 AM

franklucas - you may have the bottom end to lean. reset the needles per the instructions and go from there. Anytime i ran a cold plug it was hard to tune.

Chad Phillips 08-06-2008 05:46 AM

if the bottom end is going soft, it is to lean..

Toiffel 08-06-2008 05:50 AM

cool Ed is the grid adressing this question!!! but any info would be much appreciated!!!
Can I find the fatory setting on the trinity website, I don't have the instructions??

Toiffel 08-06-2008 05:52 AM

Chad do you if there is sme type of adpator that I can use on my compression gauge for turbo heads??

Chad Phillips 08-06-2008 06:00 AM

ed would know the answer to that question :)

The Joker 08-06-2008 06:27 PM

Oh NO! Now he's over here starting trouble... lol jk!

BlackBart 08-06-2008 08:38 PM

got one for u. i have a 21 mod extech and it has a lean bog in it at half a tank, changed plugs, tune and even changed carb to a O.S. and still had the same prob. but i will say with the OS carb that thing really liked it better. just wondering if anyone has this same thing. also it seem to run better richer then lean

C.Poh 08-07-2008 01:11 AM

sounds like its too lean somewhere how hot was the temp at ??
just make sure your bottom isnt to lean, a hour or two can change the tune quit a bit...if you come in to the pit area and your idle wants to stay up or when you just rev it up and the idle stays up then your to lean on the bottom if your going over a jump and you here your motor leaning out in the air then your to lean on top also for some odd reason the NEW novarossi pipes make this motor run weired they do exactly what your discribing ,,out of no where the idle wont come down no matter what tune you tried .we thought maybe something was up with the carb but it wasnt my buddys who run for novarossi were having the same issue and come to find out its the pipe making the motor run strange so i would not run any new novarossi pipe until they get it figured out which sucks i love those nova pipes lol ....

Chad Phillips 08-07-2008 05:07 AM

Black - your bottom end is way to lean.. put the original carb back on it and re set the needles per the instructions. let me know if u have anymore problems.

Toiffel 08-07-2008 05:47 AM
