Hi guys. Been trying to do research on this. Not much info i'm afraid.

Does anyone have firsthand experience of the performance differences between these two engines?

I have an alpha z852 and power wise, I'm impressed. I also have a OS Speed, so that's saying something.

Now I'm looking at the possibility of acquiring a Go gx7r, since somebody is offering one to me. Its almost new and is very cheap. It was broken in in front of me so I know it's in great condition. The former owner just finds that it consumes fuel a bit too much. Granted it's still probably about less than 50 tanks old.

What are your experiences? Thanks!

Depends on what u want...the gx7r has more top end then the alphas. but it really depends on what ur running it in...We also have availiable as an option, a Long tapered low speed needle..wich will give a noticble gain in run time...I personally like alphas just as much as go engines...they have different characteristics.....

I'll be running it in a Kyosho Mp9 buggy with the 2072 pipe and a 13t pinion on medium to large sized loamy tracks.

Might try the stock needle first. If it can give 9 minutes run time after run in, I'll be okay with that.

More top end that the z852? That's interesting. How about difference in the low end?

the GX7R is a GREAT buggy motor and with the 2072 pipe....you will be amazed......you should be able to get 9 min. with a 7mm or 6.5mm carb restrictor....

+1, i love the GX7R in my buggy, has all the power i need from low to high with 2072 pipe, 9 minutes is pretty easy to get with a smooth trigger finger and a 7mm restricter. im also running the fuel cooler that GO provides.

The Alpha and the Gx7 both have good top end but I wouldn't say one has more than the other really. The Alpha seems to have a little more grunt down low to make a double with a short runup. I drilled and epoxy ramped the crank on my 7 port and it helped that.

we don't have any problems with short runups over here, might be the fuel your using

Hammer0412 as an alternative to the 7 port, if your worried about the bottom end, try an MG66 (bottom end of the 5 port & more top than the 7 port & better economy than both), but you will like the 7 port

no problems here with the GX7R low end. plenty of power, as for top end it has tons, but who really needs it unless your doing drag races, but the top is there when needed thats forsure.
