Just nip them up good and tight in a cross pattern so the head is tightened down evenly and it will be all good again. Check the pinch bolt retaining screw too. This should be done up firmly, but not overtightened or you can put an indentation in the carb throat and end up with a¨wiggly¨ carb in some instances - and nobody wants that :) Something to remember when you are running a new motor in. After the first 4 or 5 tanks, just check the tightness of the head bolts and the pinch bolt retaining screw. These are nipped up in the factory, but with the heating and cooling over the first few tanks of the motor´s life these can quite often need re tightening once things have expanded a few times and settled into place. |
MG66
I had the opportunity to race the MM MG66 for the 2nd time this weekend. I broke this motor in using S&W 20% nitro 15% castor/synthetic blend. I ran it in my buggy in the grass to keep load on the motor at low RPMS. Got the motor up in the 210 range and kept it there for 500 cc's. After doing this twice i dropped it in the truggy and took it racing. Kept it on the rich side the first race day and half way through the a main the motor went FAT on top and bottom, still ran strong but when it went rich i knew there was still more to get from this motor!!!
Raced this motor yesterday with a full blown race tune on it.We started at 10am and the truggy a main was after 10PM. The weather conditions went from cool with rain in the morning to hot in the afternoon, by the time the amain came around it was sweet shirt weather cold with a lot of moister in the air. Through the entire day i made a 1 hour change on the lsn just prior to the amain. This thing keeps a great tune and came off after the race purring like a kitten just over 200 deg. I ran the 8mm restrict with a dynamite 53mr pipe 30% S&W fuel,OD 97T plug and this motor gave me everything i could ask for, strong off the bottom with crazy mid-range and kept pulling.I did not get an accurate run time but our qualifiers were 6 minutes and the fuel was above the seam in the losi tank.I pitted at 9.30 in the main in at the end of the 20 minute main there's still fuel at the fuel line coming out of the tank!! 12 plus are realistic run times with this mill. I would tell anyone that was looking to purchase one of these to give them a try, they will be quite happy with the performance and usable track power. The only other motors i own are nova FMS so I have some idea what power and performance is ;). For the price range and extra parts this makes for a good package! I'm going to make a pipe change and carb insert change and drop this in the buggy and see if i can get 10+ run time!!! Mark Thanks again, your motors the real deal and a value package. |

Took my new 2010 xray and the MG66 for their first race yesterday myself..buggy was sweet as expected..more lively than the mp777 and nothing broke or bent all day despite bloody awful wet muddy conditions most of the day.The Mg66 is now running with Mark's modified high and low speed needles for less sensitivity on the tuning as well as the xray tiny low profile filters and it was running waaaaay rich with them.As the work at our home track is yet to be finished I hadn't done more than fire it up in the garage to get it running beforehand. First tank was down from 12m40 to around 7minutes..oooops lean it way back and next tank was around the 9minute mark.Thats when the track announced no 3rd qualifying round due to the late start (cheers guys) so I missed bumping up to the semi's..leaned the motor a bit more and came in 2nd in the 1/4s so bumped up after all.then missed the final when the motor stalled in the last lap and dropped me 3 places to 6th.BOO!:flaming:
Hopefully the forecast for an entire dry sunny week this week will allow me to retune the MG to it's previous performance.I can definitely report that mark's modded needles mean easier tuning. No more ultra sensitive 1 hour adjustments between perfect tune and not.Only thing was at the start the LSN needs to be almost an entire turn further in as a start position.I'll post better once I've got the tune sorted properly. |
Giz-on your xray. Are you running it bone stock? I was thinking of blue gray springs, those shock pistons you posted and a king headz motor mount with the extended arm to help with the flex. I've just been running mine around the back yard. No big jumps, bumpy tho. The car is a lot different then my jammin x-2! I also noticed that with the smaller air filters, running richer. I have a bigger body on order to run the big filters. To me these little air filters are like trying to suck a milk shake through a coffee stir straw as opposed to a regular straw! :weird:

this is how a buddy of mine does his and they have been working out very well
Engine warmer and stock settings 6 tanks on the box then he puts the car on the ground for 4 more tanks during those tanks he starts to lean it in till it is tuned for racing on the 4th tank. I am sure people dont like this but his motors have all been good. |
MG66 glow plugs
Hey there everyone.
I want to stock up on some glow plugs for my MG66, what should I get? I run 25% Nitro-X fuel and we have extreemes in temperature, through summer we race at night and ambient temp is around 30 - 35 degrees C and in winter we race during the day with temps in the 10 degree C area. Thanks in advance. |
