I ran my 3 port for the first time this weekend and it ran awesome, it has a very smooth power band, easy to drive fast. My son ran a 7 port and it ran very well for only running it 225 deg.

It would seem from recent posts that the Go Tech engines run well at temps anywhere from 200 F up to 260+ F. I am guessing the higher temps mean better power production, but with a reduced life span. Would this be a fair assumption ?

I tune my engines pretty conservatively, as I am fairly new to the sport and don't want to cook anything My two 5 ports (non modified with turbo heads) normally come in after a run at around 105 - 110 C (so around 220 F) when they are running good. This is using 25% fuel with standard restrictor.
Sounds like I could tune a little more aggresively with no worries perhaps

maybe mine is heating up because it's still new and tight, maybe when it looses up a bit and hit the gallon the temps may go down, but still, I have to make a couple of laps to heat it up because it starts very rich, and it doesn't feel lean at 260 F, and that's not a bad temp anyway

zJatoRad, your temps will probably come down a little when the metal pinch goes from your engine. Takes about 1.5 gal to fully bed the 5 and 7 ports in it would appear.

the temps on mine are not too bad but run normally around 230-250 good and with no lean bog and still needs little more break in time.

Russ Jones your a very standup guy....major props to you and to the way you take care of your customers and back your engine line... I wish more of the RC industry would take a page from your book... Hopefully 2008 turns to be a very good for you and Go engines, you deserve it !!!! cheers....


FYI i was hoping to run a modded Go 7 port at the Canadian Winter Nationals, but it seems the motor I ordered never showed up..... Its either lost int he mail or held up at customs... So i will be having to run a OS 28 instead.

there are a lot of things that determine the heat you READ from an engine

Type of temp gun
Emmesivity rating of the material in the head
Head Clearence
Fuel
Pipe
Tyres
Weather
Humidity

etc etc ..

What i did with the engines at the NSW titles was to see how far we could lean them and still run reliably with my new fuel. We found 160 deg C was about as far you could go while still maintaining good performance. id say with regular fuels run them at 140 deg c .

What people regard as hot may actually be normal operating temp. When you get an engine running so hot it sags in power then you are starting to enfore pre mature wear but running an engine hot and happy will allow it to last longer ...

The happy part relies completely on the quality of the oil you use

I kind of like that smell. Reminds me of the pits at the drag races, although at a lesser level.

ABSOLUTELY ! thats the whole reason i started using it , i tune a lot of engines in doors and every bit helps . I too love the smell of raw Nitro but after a while it gets to you.
Id say it reduces the irritation and burn by about 50% .. It also keeps the neighbours happy when they smell cinnamon coming out of my shop as opposed to buring oil and Nitro .. lol
