The NTC3 with that tallest gears is 4.44 so its very close. But none of this matters unless you race at Ohio. And then even the NTC3 is maxed out 3/4 of a way down. Get over it already.

Craig: he doesn't even know what gear ratio is...... or internal ratio for that matter.... :ha: :ha: :ha:

Enough about the gearing guys, KYOSHO 18-22 gears fit well if you place a .5mm shim before the first gear pinion and you only need that if you think it's important for the faces to align 100%.
For the guys who think that the higher the top speed the better this car is very fast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ME-student, I apologise if I get the wrong message above but if you read my other post in this forum, you will know that I'm not short of knowing what internal and final ratios are even though I'm still a newbie.

Since I do not own an MTX-2 (much less MTX-3), I do not have any clue as to what the internal gear ratio is for the MTX-3.

I have assumed that the figures given by Robbie in his earlier post was the final ratio of the car when using 22T/42T gearing. My bad. In any case, thanks for clearing it up. No biggie
:p

thats ok... we are all here to learn:)

If you like it, buy it and fix the problem yourself (if you think it is)

Manticore, you don't need to preach the "if you don't have the car then don't talk about it" mantra or get riled if I made comments...

At least I give credit to people like ME-student and appreciate him for pointing out to me that I had assumed wrongly the figures of the internal ratios. You could have done the same and pointed out to me which you did not...

rjl: thanks for that info.. i was about to try that since i don't have any optional gears yet...

If I'm not mistaken, I think that is the right way of choosing gears. At least I think I remembered Motorman mentioning that the engine should reach top end 3/4 way end on the straight... I may be wrong.

But still with the NTC3, you need taller gearing and smaller ratios which would compensate for the lack of top end because of the inherent pipe design. You'll normally get higher revs on normal cars with normal type pipes.

21T/27T for pinions and 54T/48T for spurs was what Mark used I believe. That is the tallest gear ratio as what you have mentioned. So the NTC3 in this case cannot be equated with the other cars based on final ratio...

Just checked it out.... Clutch bell is the same as the mtx2, so you can keep your old ratio's. As rjl said, the VoneR gears fit, so that means the mtx2 gears should too!

rjl 11-18-2002 03:41 AM

Can we please start talking about other aspects of this car other than the bloody gear ratios?
I race these things for the enjoyment of racing on a track, I have little interest in the terminal speed after a 5 mile runup.
If R.C. is still looking at this thread I'd like to know if you exchanged the front doggies for MTX2 ones? Did you find the car too understeery? On my car I am having trouble getting the rear end to drift.

Has anybody seen a set of the MTX2 Mugen CVD's, if so what were they like. I'm assuming the Bone part will be similar on the mtx3.

rjl 11-18-2002 03:59 AM

Bloody Kyosho ones don't quite fit, missed by about half a mil.

rjl 11-18-2002 04:00 AM

MTX2 ones won't fit 'cause the outer race is 10mm I.D.:p

rjl 11-18-2002 04:01 AM

Wouldn't bother with AE ones.

rjl 11-18-2002 04:04 AM

In urgent need of MTX3 CVs. Anyone?
