I was there. I watched every lap. DJ won, period. Barry was faster early on but killed his tires. Paul was also faster at times but had some minor issues. DJ never put a wheel wrong despite the intense pressure on the most lethal track I have ever seen. All three cars were great but on that day on that track, DJ was the better driver.

I don't doubt DJ's talent I just think that he lucky , and that the Ntc3 > ..........> goat ...lol...

If only Barry was driving his Ntc3, who knows what he could have done !!!

Thats funny. NTC3 I think Michael Salven could still win with a Veteq. How about making a nostalgia thread and leaving this one for MTX5.
Thanks

No Nostalgia here buddy, just recognition of the greatest of all RC times, the Ntc3 Barry Baker Edition , and hopefully there will be a Mtx5 Barry Baker Edition just as successful for him !!! No I am not B-mag, whoever that is ...I wish Barry well in his future race meets ....

what i did notice when assembling mine is that the 20t pinion almoust touches de 53t spur (of course if you want a 100% gear mesh, so what i did is just place the 1st gear housing on a bench and move a little bit outward the housing so now theres no way that the 20t pinion touches de 53t spur! i did this as i didnt have space to place a 6mm shim, or you can dremel the bushing spacer next to the pulley of the header, and with that space gained use some shims to separate the spurs!

I have not seen any of the issues your speaking of. The MTX5 doesnt go through gears. I had a few hard crashes and broke the car but no stripping. Maybe look at the way you mesh the gears. These really small gears mesh differnetly than an 1/8th scale or an old big tooth sedan pinion. There were 4 cars at the last race and none had gear issues.

Was the gear mesh tight or loose....

That is surpising, while I dont own one, Bishop has let me have a very close look at his Mtx5, the MTX4 had a lot of flex between the transaxle and the engine and this was why many used an alloy cross brace above. The bulkhead arrangement of the MTX5 creates a very rigid rear end up to the radio plate and this should prevent the flex issues that would expand the mesh and strip.

If your 2nd speed kicks in too early then that may cause the strip.. Was it first or second gear that stripped? Overheating or slipping clutch, cluch binding etc may cause it too. Might want to check engine mounts for cracks too.

I think if you have stripped a gear on the new 5, chances are you did something wrong...

Yeah the mesh point of the gears can flex, but not a lot, and the main point of flex is forward of the engine, and with forward of the engine acting as that point of flex, the gear mesh section should not flex much at all on track.

That and the new spur material is 'super' hard, even with some flex if you set your mesh right I can't see it flexing enough to strip a gear unless it was way too tight or loose.

Though I did have a thought today, if you choose to put a brace the car like we have seen a few people do, odds are you may increase the flex at the gear mesh point on track, cause you took away the point where it's designed to flex.

Just thoughts and theories, either way I get to run mine again tomorrow, and by the looks of it I won't be the only one around here with a 5 much longer, quite a few showing interest in the car now...

how long does it take for the brake pads to bed in?
