It's O.S. XZ engine. Again I can't say 100% that it's having the same problem after I re built the engine yet cuz, as you mentioned, I only broke in the engine halfway in the garage last night and didn't involve running the car on the ground. Today, I'll lay down the car on the ground and try it to see the problem still exists.
Obviously last night, the engine was not even 160 degrees when I was breaking in. Another reason I can't say the problem still exists. I'll update you tonight. I'll take a picture and post it here to see if you can notice any. I may not be a beginner but not an expert either so hopefully you guys can notice something that I don't see. I checked this and that so many times already that I don't even know if I want to keep this car LOL. |

Tune the low and high needle untill it sounds like a dog barking with shorts bursts on the throttle:D. Snappy on the throttle and quick revving. When your done running in that is.:sneaky: |

My NT1 has very inconsistent gear shifting. Sometimes it doesn't even shift or it shift way too early no matter how tight the 2nd gear shoe is. I checked the one way bearing, clutch and got a new shoe for the 2 speed and still same problem exists. I just re built the car and in the process of re building the engine(O.S. XZ). I just couldn't finish it today because the crankshaft bearing is jacked a bit so I have to get a new one. What else should I check??
If your oneway is over lubricated it can slip, it's engaged in 1st gear when revving up the two speed shoe, if slipping can cause changing shift or slip completely and risk a blown engine. If 2speed shoes are asymmetric, the larger trailing mass should be greater in the direction of rotation. If there's a silver sheen on shoe, shoe is slipping, contaminants perhaps or shoe setup. If it's a new car then accept the entire transmission needs "running in" like an engine, chassis and bearings too, so ensure you're not binding on brakes too, anything to slow down the RPM of the two speed drum, not necssarily just the engine rpm, as your clutch can slip and the 2 Speed Drum slows down. When stuck in 2nd gear things tend to go bad. We all cringe at a finicky 2 speed, so you're not alone. |

One way bearing maybe... Clean it thoroughly, clean lay shaft, add one drop of one-way lube, put on lay shaft, rotate and feel the grab.

I've seen it even when the car runs fine. It's not a new car so breaking in the entire drive train seems unnecessary. I'll test it again tomorrow and update you. |

Yeah is is definitely an engine tuning issue. I usually break in by two tanks idling on the box, then two tanks in the track extremely heavy or thick on the Hs needle to the point where the car I s just barely able to get around, aka super slow, 3rd, 4th, and 5th tank on the track I start to lean out the engine ever so slightly to get it to 180, by my 6th and 7th tank I bump it up to 200 and by my 8th I am able to tune to full bore. Shifting should start occurring on the 7th and 8th tank.
I'll lean out HSN soon. 160 temperature was because I was in the process of breaking in the engine. I'll update you tomorrow. |

Thanks Michael!
Does anyone have gearing ideas for winternats? Want to order a variety of pinions and spurs. And want to know if I will use stock side pulleys. JI |

JI For the most part, you'll need 16, 17, 22, 23 pinions. The 16 and 21 come in the kit so that will save you on one. I very rarely use a 21 and I don't think you'll need it at Winternats BUT, I've never been there. For spurs...again I primarily use 54, 59, 60. Same as before, never been to Winternats but I think you'll be fine with the 4 pinions and 3 spurs. Maybe a 53 spur also just in case you like it. |
