I had to do that on my REDS R5R that went in my MP9 recently. I don't know if your crank case is black or what color it is but you could get some metal paint that matches the original and make it look like it was made that way :P

Did any body out there in La La catch this story today. Hobbico stop Team Durango activities -NeoBuggy.net ? Offroad RC Car News. Its another good RC brand killed by Hobbico/Great Planes too bad I love my DNX* no wonder I got it dirt cheap last winter! I knew this was going to happen to TD its really a sad day for such a great company. I love my DNX 8 it such a cool car!

I see in the very first post that started this thread where the OP says to adjust the O-ring seal in the fuel cap.
SO now I'm wondering if (because I never adjusted it) the tank cap lack of seal is why my idle is so weird.
I just broke in my engine about a week ago and during break-in, it was always lower to mid RPMs so nothing ever seemed weird but when I took it out in the dirt and run it, the idle is high after acceleration and takes about maybe 7 to 10 seconds to settle down. Sounds perfectly normal when I first start it and I don't rev too much or drive it too hard, idle still seems fine.
I've experimented with the LSN and the idle screw quite a bit but still no improvement.
The engine's a Rex Legend 4 port with a 9886/41033 exhaust. Fuel is 30/9.

I see I forgot to ask my question:
What symptoms have any of you had by not adjusting that tank cap?

But first I'll see what effect adjusting the cap has on it.

Before testing the tank, I was out there trying to richen up the LSN but when I did, it would not want to idle at all and try to die and did die a couple times so I adjusted the idle up to compensate but it was clear at that point that the idle was too high so I put that back, leaned the LSN so it would run but the problem of the idle not settling down was still there.
So then I tested the tank by hooking it up to a fish tank pump and dunking it under water and the cap was spraying bubbles like crazy meaning there's little to no pressure in the tank which is why when I tried to set the LSN richer (really where it should be to be normal), the engine was getting no pressure from the tank and that's why it wanted to die at that setting.
So I just need to fix the cap seal problem to build up pressure, adjust the LSN to where it belongs and I should be good to go.
I'm going to do all that tomorrow and see how that goes but I'm 99% sure that's the fix.

So after spending a few hours tonight working on this, I've come to the conclusion that TD's tank cap is crap.
I tried the trick with loosening the screw 1 - 2 turns and on more than one tank but I still couldn't get maximum tank pressure. I even tried little adjustments and testing over and over again but it still showed some bubbles under water.
So then I started looking at and experimenting with other brands tank cap seals. The Losi 8B was almost real close but just a little too thick when I discovered the O-ring and the little black piece out of an OFNA LX2 tank is perfect.
Seals up very nicely giving 100% positive tank pressure.
I'm really super stoked about the success. Can't wait to run it again.
