I don't use the spacer behind the collet on my os engines or any other engine. Idk why it started coming with that silly washer.

It really depends on the engine imo. All my OS based motors (Ninja, V-Spec and Speed) needed the spacer for the correct spacing. All other motors don't seem to need it.

Ive never added a collet shim on any of my os motors but I do have a couple of shims before the NUT and maybe one on the CB / CB's spin forever with a small small small tad of play and my bearings last. Im I doing something wrong cause don't see any problems?

When you say correct spacing what are you referring 2. Also noticed that some people have a problem running the M2C clutch on the 8ights never experienced any problems either love that setup.

well...when thing's dont fit as they should or there's an abnormal amount of forward/backwards play in the clutch you'll need some shims....for end play your looking for .3-.5mm

An easy way to check for end play is to have a variety of shims from .1 to .3 (Kyosho sells a nice little pack) and start playing with the clutch and how many shims it takes to lock thing's up....once its locked you can start pulling shims out...Measure what you have left and figure out something near .3-.5 and you'll be good to go.

Another small tip...make sure to press on the bell and turn it...Make sure your not bottoming out the bell on the Base of the flywheel or on the inside on the show pins.

Clutch setup takes patience but once you get familiar it becomes easy when I got back into Nitro I used youtube as a reference they have great tips on all sorts of HOW 2's check it out.

For some reason all my DLC coated cranks seem to need that spacer. Without it, I get a weird bind on the flywheel. I've tried new collets and different flywheels with no luck. This has occurred on three different engines, so it's not a motor defect.

Does the nut not tighten down without the spacer?

it does. I put that spacer in so i dont have to use more then usually 2 shims.

I dont know maybe its the series of engine or just a personal preference on setup but I have a speeds, JX's and one Vspec and they all work the same depenning on clutch bell. Maybe thats the problem what CB are you using Pyromania ??I used Robinson.

TIX 08-01-2010 02:55 AM

i dont use the washer at all. just slap on the collet then flywheel then nut, 1 shim bell and another shim. at most ive used 4 shims

ive always found that the losi needs a fair bit of play to prevent the bearings from blowing out.

What do y'all use to keep the dust out of the radio box?

I just blow it out on occasion....Ive sealed and re-drilled my battery hole but the foam 1/2 cover's the hole with the battery installed....I take out my packs quite often so its no big deal to blow out the ESC box while im doing my routine compressor blowing.

l3asher 08-01-2010 05:35 PM

Not so much the batter, just trying to keep the dirt out of the Rx box.

Jammin57 08-01-2010 07:09 PM

Take a balloon and cut the end that you blow on off and pull it over the rx and servo wires and then put some tape around it and it will keep the dust out

malcnz 08-02-2010 12:29 AM

Good idea on the balloon.
also put a bit of silicon around the holes to seal them up that the servo wires etc go through as this keeps the dust out.
