You want the mesh to be loose. If it is too tight it will cause problems - CB teeth, bearings, etc. Check your CB play - in & out movement - if that is too loose, it can cause a little extra noise.
|
ok, I normally try to set it a tick loose, maybe I underestimated how loose the losi needs to be, thanks, I will give a looser mesh a shot.

I have noticed that the new High Endurance clutch bells are a little noisier then the standard ones. That could be it.

I just got back from running again, I did not change my mesh as I thought it was just breaking in, and that is what it seems to be, the noise level dropped quite a bit with the 3 tanks I just put through it.

what clutch setup are you running? I need just a bit more snap out of one corner on or track that has a short runup to an over-under. The car came with all alum shoes, so thats what I have, I'm thinking about going to all gold springs.
i run the stock gearing 13/50 but use all the lightweight driveline gear. the lightweight stuff definetly makes a difference the spool up of the motor. it just doesnt have to work as hard because the rotating mass is less |

I haven't bought the steel flywheel yet. I'm going to wait untill the stock one I have is worn out. |

I would probably look into the rear diff. It is possible that it is not shimmed correctly. every diff/gear set needs to be shimmed differently, and I am sure the factory is just shimming them all the same. Might be worth looking into. You probably should grease the R/P better too. Mine had very little grease from the factory. I use mobile 1 red grease on mine. It could also just be breaking in. Most likely the noise will go away once it wears in.
you can get it at auto parts stores in bulk or http://carolinasrc.com/Webstore/Scri...dproduct=12047 |

Thanks Jammin, I'll definately look into it...Although I didnt plan on tearing into my diffs this soon. I see guys are saying the noise could be the gear mesh....ah ...I always set mine the same with a little play, and I shim the clutch bell same with a mm or so of forward and back movement. Also someone mentioned the new clutch bell might make some more noise. Are we referring to the new bell that comes in the kit?

Yeah it could just be the bell/spur wearing in. Any bell/spur set will have to wear in, and will be kinda noisy until it does. The new high endurence bell may have something to do with it too(prolly takes longer to wear in). I'm not sure about that. I haven't use the losi bell yet. Been running robinson bells. The robinson bells have much tighter tolerences, which extends bearing life significantly. Not sure about the HD bell. It might be the same way.
The new bell is great and balanced very well. I have raced 2 weekends and put 3 pratice days in "about 6 hours each" on the same set of bearings and they are smooth. |

Extremely tight. I thought there might be a problem it was so tight... I've had an easier time getting in the rear bearings in an engine...

Good to know. How is the bearing fit in the bell? Nice and tight? That is the biggest thing I like about the robinson ones. The bearing fit is really tight. The normal losi bells were sloppy as all hell brand new.
