By adding return springs on the break linkage and between brake pads the break cams must return when you let off the break and the pads must fully open. Also, the tolerance is easier to get tight so the breaks come on very predictably.

Hi guys!! Just picked up a near mint 8ight-T 2.0 RTR off craigslist for a steal. So far driven it once and damn!!! I havent driven nitro in years and the power, speed and the brakes!!! Holy sh!t!!! I can't wait to get it to a track and really have some fun with it.
Just wanted to say hi and that I'll be catching up on the last few eons of posts to get up to speed and I'll probly post a repeat newb question now and then so please bear with me.

Okay, so first questions:
1) So I have the original losi servos in the truck currently (yes, I know, replace them. All in due time. Maybe sooner rather than later.....) and 1) it will not center. I can trim it this way and that and it still wants to center off to the right. 2) It does this wierd back and forth motion all on its own from time to time after returning to neutral. What gives?

2) The previous owner elected to use one of the two exhaust manifold springs as a poor mans fail safe. While I have no problem with this idea, if losi thought two springs were required to hold the manifold on should I pick up a set to get it back to that good condition?

Thanks!

Have you taken the servo arm off and returned the servo back to its neutral position? When you have done this try and attach the servo so the front wheels are pointing as straight as possible. Then use sub trim on your radio to align perfectly. If you arent getting right angle alignment then you may need to adjust the turnbuckle.

Yes - use 2 springs for your exhaust manifold.

Thanks. I'll try that. But what would cause the unintended back and forth of the servo?

So this guy gave me a TON of, stuff in this sale and included were two airtronics 94359 servos. they need new leads soldered in but if they work would they be decent upgrades to the losi our should I just try and sell them and get something else? I also have a hitec 645mg, and a ko propo pds 2367 ics which appears to be rated very well....

Servo's shutter like that when the top case bushing is going south, The POT is constantly trying to find center but with the worn out bushing it gets into a Rhythm and will sit there twitching back and forth

Thank you! That makes more sense. Have a 377oz servo doing that and someone thought is was motor going out, but if that shaft is swiggling back and forth it fights itsellf trying to center and as soon as you give it any pressure to either direction it stops

So I installed the ko propo servo and it doesn't stutter at all but when turned off the servo is very easy to turn. Is this normal for digital metal gear servos?

Asap, I'm looking at savox servos for both throttle and steering. Just gonna run these until then....

Yep, that's normal to turn easy when the power is off, if the servo has any binding when power is off, that's not good, that will eventually burn up the servo motor and it pulls down the battery voltage also.
Some of you guys are using servos that are not made for hi volt lipos, make sure you are not putting hi volt Lipo battery to the airtronics, and the KO servo, those are not hi volt servos.

iVTEC4LIFE 09-02-2012 08:38 AM

Whew. Thanks. No lipos for me yet. Stuck in the nimh age for awhile yet. Lol

Ok, time for a total newb question:
Glow plugs. Looking at one, how would I know it's bad? The OS #8 that was/is in the motor looks like the coil is grey/white. It will not "glow" like I think it should outside the motor on the igniter.

Also, at times when attempting to start the motor it seems to get "stuck" at TDC. What is the best way to get it out of that position other than taking the plug out and bumping it on the starter wheel. Cuz even then it's hit or miss.

It's been 15yrs since I've successfully run nitro and I seem to have forgotten all I know about these things. Wheres the newb thread?
Thanks!!!

aznitronut 09-02-2012 04:46 PM

Your plug sounds a little.lean, that is a cold.plug, is there any distortion in the coil? Your glow driver could be dead, what engine is it your using? If the engine is sticking at TDC, you can us a screw driver to turn the engine over from the bottom where the fly wheel runs on the starter box wheel. How new is the engine?

iVTEC4LIFE 09-03-2012 07:33 AM

Thanks for the info. About an hour after I posted and letting the igniter charge, she fired right up.
I'm running the stock Losi 454 motor. I've run three tanks thru it and the previous owner claimed 10 tanks for himself. I believe the compression is still very high. I also think that I may have flooded the motor. I'm still learning. This is really fun for me but it's driving my wife nuts!!! Lol
