Would I be able to put the momba monster 2 esc and motor in the rival actually it's the 2020 motor from castle and esc from monster 2 it's going to cost me $300 but before i spend my food money lol. I would like to know if the truck can take that size and power?

It's mod 1. I ordered this one when I swapped out the motor and esc on mine. No issues to date running it.

Maybe I messed up and for some reason have something other than Mod 1 but it sure looks mod 1 and that's all I thought I had.

No, You will not be able to fit the Castle 2020 motor. That is a 1/5th scale sized motor, You need a 1/8th scale motor. Mamba monster 2 esc will be fine for the rival. Even the castle 1515 2200KV motor is a step up from the stock Reedy motor.

Should be able to take out bottom 8 screws and loosen the drivshafts to access it.

Well got the esc installed and motor. But I still have a messed up diff somewhere. I striped a few screws and the pinion screw must have been put on with red lock tight. What a pain that was to get off. I can't figure it out with out removing the shock towers on both ends. I'm disappointed in this truck. I now have $1000 into it and I can't fix the diff. Maybe another night when I'm not frustrated I'll take another look at it

While you had the center diff out, you should have been able to isolate your diff issue, front or rear.
Maybe I did not read far enough back in the thread , but what seems to be the diff issue? I can have my center diff out in minutes. The front/rear diffs are fairly easily as well. A few more screws but not hard. If you are stripping screws you are either using too much force or incorrect tool size. The easiest way to get a stubborn grub screw out of a pinion is to use a little heat from a lighter. It will help breakdown the loctite.

Not trying to be harsh on you, but these things are not very hard to work on.

Thank you. I have worked on my sc10 4x4 lots. I will have to take another look. It looks like I have to remove the plastic tray. Slipper and lots of other stuff I may be doing more work then needed. But I can't wait to it put togather. The servo will be next upgrade and last one. As I have done all recommendations by squrl. Full shock swap, a arms, motor esc, fluid change I just need to put it all togather. I'm using a 21 tooth for 4s. If I use the 6s I think a 18 tooth would be fine, am I right for this gear. It has stock spir gear still

if you can work on an SC10 4x4 you can easily work on the Rival! SC10 servo replacement is a pain in the ass, working around the drive belt killed me. Traded it for an SCTE and never looked back

I am running a 20 tooth on 4s and 5s and my temps are always good. I am running the Stock spur gear.
I would run the 21 on 6s and just check your temps after a few minutes. Adjust the pinion size from there. Every motor and esc reacts a little different as well as the terrain you are running.

The slipper is part of the center diff module. You should not have to remove that to remove the front or rear diffs. Nor the battery tray.
What leads you to believe you have a diff issue?

Well I feel a silly. Last time I worked on the rival I didn't look at the manual. Bad rookie mistake. It was easy 10 min. I thank you for your help. I did a 200k centre diff and finished it off with the rpm a arms. I think I need to get the toe a bit better but ya this is way easier then the sc10 4x4. Next time I'll take 2 min to read the manual.
