Failsafe unit

1 Attachment(s)
I learned this lesson the hard way, run a failsafe unit to avoid a runaway. I am still looking for a suitable mounting spot for the thottle return spring. Having both would decrease the odds of a runaway Monster and possibly save you a lot of $ and not to mention a big !*^"%<> headache. The FS unit is mounted upright in front of the Futaba reciever.

Very small footprint. Takes so little space and is very low profile as well. I am in the process of making a Custom lower profile radio box that is half the height of the OE box. It will be made from a combination of the lower half(base)of the box and some fiberglass to get the correct shape I want. The top part will house a built in Venom temparature monitor encased inside the box. I am also thinking of doing this to the battery box. It will be of a lower profile as well, it will ressemble the hump pack shape and will also have the Voltwatch encased into the box as well.

Where I get my info is from racing, my stock 2.5 even makes the .21s look like there up on blocks. HP # don't mean that much because all the motor companys say, theres is the best.

track test it, its the only way, you say you have some buds with that motor in there truck. well go race them, and if you don't win, work on your tuning skills.

The new 2.5 is BAD TO THE BONE!!!

Just so you know I'm not blowing smoke

I'm 45 years old, and the 2 time and current Masters truck national champ

my son is 11, and is the current jr stock national champ.

good luck with your truck, I was only trying to help

IB.. ;)

XtremeMDX 03-16-2003 12:14 AM

I I B racing I was not questioning your information....

I know the 2.5 is the most powerful in it's class and I was definitely not questioning your knowledge take my question as it is just a question. No insult intended I would be very happy if I don't have to spend more money on another motor. As I said I am very happy with the stock 2.5 I was worried that if I do the mods I am planning to do will I loose negligible performance. With the success you are having I might just save a lot of $$$$. The question with the .21s were that they were always too heavy to begin with. They might be perfect for 1/8 scale buggies and touring cars but they usually had a less than satisfying results on the monster trucks compared to the other 2 applications. I am sorry if you thought I was disrespecting you, I would never intentionally do so to anyone on this or any board. I have learned a lot from this board and would never intentionally berate or insult anyone, please accept my apologies if you felt dissed in anyways. Reviewing my previous post I now see why you would see it that way. I am very thankful for any input you may offer. I do have a question for you I B Racin. My carb settings seem pretty dialed in I would like to know what your carb settings are if you don't mind sharing that info. I need a baseline if I am even close to optimum settings. So far the 2.5 has been the most easiest and most consistent nitro motor I have tuned. I have 10 years of experience with nitro tuning but I would love to learn more from people with the experience such as yours. I had 3 choices for my first truck by the way. They were the Savage, T-Maxx and the upcoming AE Monster GT. The T-Maxx has the smallest engine of the three but still does not give up anything in performance, not to mention the better handling truck compared to the Savage. I based my decision on the test reviews. I did my homework before I bought the T-Maxx and all I can say was I could not be happier with my choice. The engine size did not discourage or even actually swayed me away from the T-Maxx at all. You are by the way absolutely correct about HP claims, they are there more for marketing purposes than anything. You have by the way pretty much got me thinking, I am now more confused than ever if I should spend the money on moding the 2.5 or getting a new motor, In your opinion or if you know anyone that has done the Sirio internal swap on the 2.5 is it really worth the $. One more thing do you know anyone that makes a bigger diameter exhaust header the stock one seems puny, even my .12 OS engine from 6 years ago had a bigger header pipe. what's up with that LOL. Thanks for the encouraging info on this mill, really makes me happy to know I made the correct choice, I was a little hesitant at first since I am a huge AE fan.

I did not feel dissed at all.

But you did ask for input, and then sounded like you had allready made up your mind on what you were going to do.

all I can say is, if your going to race. go to the track and talk to the racers that are fast, you'l see they are very helpful, look over there trucks and see what stuff they use.

As for my carb settings. as you know yours we'll very because of where you live, its really cold up here in WA. state right now..

3-3/4 out on the main.

about a 1/4 out from flush on the low speed.

the 2.5 runs a lot hotter than other motors, Traxxax told me that if theres a good trail of smoke don't get to hung up on engine temp's. mine runs best at 250 to 300

you'l know your geting close when it runs real bad when you first start it up, spits fuel out till it warms up..

Good luck I B..

I agree with IB. Get a good setup, worry about the little stuff later. Just focus on your driving, dont race anybody out there just your self.

Anybody have trouble running Odonnel %20 fuel with the 2.5?

XtremeMDX 03-23-2003 09:55 PM

O' Donnel 20% Nitro......

I exclusively run this on all my cars including my 2.5 T-Maxx. No problems as usuall. I never have issues with this fuel. I have been using this for years now.

Pit-racer 03-24-2003 10:31 AM

 What do you maxxer's recommend as an engine replacement for the 1st gen. maxx? Pull or electric start? Don't want to convert to .21's.

coastaltony 03-24-2003 11:41 AM

An OS CV.15 with a pull-start is about as good as anything

edwinnmoratalla 03-24-2003 07:55 PM

anybody knows where i can download a manual for the OS 15cvr?
