Ok everyone, here's the July results!

First off WELCOME Mathew Bull and the rest who got tracks and will be joining soon! Eric had some GREAT RUNS, and it was good to see the returners and all who continue to keep this challenge going! We had some VERY CLOSE racing in most classes in the podium positions, and everyones times look to be improving! It will be fun to see who likes CCW better with this surprisingly challenging track! It's pretty easy to run, but the 180*s are time killers!

Eric had the SMOKIN Stock run of 308.850 with a FAST Lap of 3.760!!! SMOKIN!!!!!
We had 11 Drivers running 34 total entries! Good showing, Thanks Again Everyone!!!

I think I got everybody's time down and correct, but if I screwed up just holler! THANK YOU ALL AGAIN for running with us, and hopefully it will just grow throughout the summer!!! To those who just got tracks, post your times! Even if they aren't in the front, it will give you something to look back on as you progress! Forgive me for being a day late, but I was awake most all last week(less than 10 hours sleep in 6 days!), and finally crashed Saturday night and dozed most of Sunday! Still a bit punchy, but I'm liking going CCW! Yall have FUN and keep it Shiny Side UP!:D Andy (BoxxerBoyDrew) Curington

Thanks Drew for the results and welcome to the new members! This is my second layout and fourth month in M96—learned a ton already.

On this layout, I found avoiding brakes (even in 180s) gave better flow. I reduced drag brake by adjusting the neutral dead zone on my Noble NB4+ (from 0% to 6%). Less braking made PN/Gekko front mediums understeer, so I switched to harder front tires (KS/KSK Firm) with softer springs—instantly ~0.3s faster with more steering.

Harder tires gave more corner speed with less scrub, and the soft springs helped them warm up fast. Discs are mandatory with the larger 22.8mm tires — I run 30mm disc to prevent traction roll.

Excited to apply this to a larger RCP layout and keep learning from the group! :tire:

GREAT INFO ERIC Thank for sharing, and I plan on trying some of those tips to see if I'm faster!!! I've been working on my ProStock chassis as it was BAD compared to the rest of my cars. I went from a 10/52 to a 9/52, and adjusted the ICS motor settings, and got a MUCH BETTER RUN! ESPECIALLY for me and CCW! I beat my CW July run on my first timed CCW run after a few hundred learning laps ( less than 1 battery pk) by 19.389 seconds and my fast lap by .058 seconds too. MAN, making the ICS changes sure was easy with the Jackie RC ICS Programing Box!!! SOO MUCH easier than the USB adaptor!
Anyway here's the 1st run Prostock with the White Jomu on August's CCW Layout.

I had a few brain farts at laps 14, 51 and 70. Other than those 3 laps, all were under 5 seconds and the car is GOOD!!! With the MR04 EVO board and a PN Anima 5500kv V4 motor I am at 50% forward throttle with the 9/52 PN Ball Diff. VERY GOOD RUN for ME CCW!!! I have a few things I want to try, but this run was soo good, I don't know if I will be able to repeat this consistency. At LEAST I got it on the clock, for a change! Usually when I drive this good I'm not on the clock, so no proof! :p

Hope Yall are having fun!

BoxxerBoyDrew 08-05-2025 02:08 AM

Time to start planning for next months layout! I have designed quite a few, though very few have been tested. SO, I was thinking of going back to a layout we have had before. That will do 2 things. 1) we'll have a proven layout, 2) those of us who have been around a while can compare times to see how we've improved, or not!

SO, my idea is for those of us running the Challenge next month, go back through and pick your 2 favorite layouts, and post the numbers of your picks, Then the 4th week of August we can vote like we have been!

Sound OK?

I thought this way we can all get a voice on their choices, and it will be cool to see which, if any, layouts we choose the same!

Here's screen shots of all the layouts and I'll try to number them as best as possible. There are some we already ran more than once, but I left them in order except 1 track in 2023(iirc) that didn't have a pic of.

What Yall think?

Bested my Box Stock CW time by 1 second and a bit faster fast lap of 4.07 vs 4.09 and that is with 2 traction rolls :tire:

Only setup change I made was the rear tires from Gekko RS3 Slick (NX-GK-011) to Marka 15 Radials (MZR-V1R15)
I think i can squeeze more out of the car if humidity is lower but the car handles like 10 scale touring car and its fun to drive!

Pedal to the metal, hope you guys have a great weekend!

Trying to get my BoxStock running, and it's ok, but just... I started with Old Marka V1R10 that are pretty thin and KSM Med LH slicks worn thin too. So I went to worn to slicks Marka V1RR10 and whatever I have on my Stock car, and it was ok, but had too much initial steering. So I went back to the Enzo front wheels with the worn KSM LH Med and put new KSM Radial Med on the Enzo +3mm rear wheels. It was better, but still off. last this morning I stayed with the same wheel/tire combo, and adjusted the steering d/r and expo, went to 0 expo and it was the best.

Last months time was 360.036 / 4.286, so my Overall was 6.841 seconds faster while my fast lap was .075 seconds slower!

So I will play with the springs, and t plate to see if I can get it to handle more to my liking and see if I can shave some time! I was able to run faster laps with the tires off my Stock car, but I had TR probems, even in turn 2!

As for the paint, I am thinking a possible Gulf livery, but my Son says to keep it as is, as write RoadKill on it and send a Pic into RoadKill Garage TV Show!

BoxxerBoyDrew 08-10-2025 10:28 AM

Still trying to get my BoxStock to drive better, so I went to my Stock chassis with a Pink Jomu w/lexan roof. It ran ok going CW but could be better, so after looking the setup over I found it didn't have any droop in the rear pod. I reset the droop at around 1mm, and it woke the handling up!

I RAN THE BEST RUN I EVER HAVE WITH ANY 1/28th scale car!!! I only had 1 mistake at lap 63 when I nosed it into the wall in turn 5, because my rt forearm nerves were screaming at me after driving for almost an hour straight! I actually feel pretty good today, so I'm trying to get as much driving in as I can! :D I was pushing it pretty hard. 1 more click on the throttle d/r and I'm to fast for a timed run! I really hope I can beat this run later in the month, but i kind of doubt it!

I'll have to go back through my stuff and see if I can figure it out. I think I may have run 63 streak laps with my GLR when I first got it, but never have a 1 mistake run before! BoxxerBoyDrew 08-11-2025 12:07 AM

Well, I FINALLY found a tire combo for my BoxStock that is fast and turns like I want with no TR, BUT I can't get the freakin tires to stay on the wheels!!!!:flaming: 10 laps or so into a run they slip off the wheel to the inside.

They are Reflex RX604-30 8.5mm Low Profile Slicks, and they won't stay stuck to the wheels, because they are TOO BIG!!! These are 20mm wheels, and they fit the same on all makes of 20mm wheels, and I use PN Tire Tape, cleaned both tires and wheels with alcohol. They came folded in half in the package, and they are loose enough that you can see the fold seam in the tires even after taping! I thought about trying 2 layers of tape, but I don't know if that will help!

You can lightly squeeze the tires to try to help set them, and they actually lift off the wheels in front of my fingers.
Anybody else have this issue?

You could wrap some more tape around the wheel. My guess is whatever is happening with the tire now to give you the feeling you like will be gone once they are staying in place.

BoxxerBoyDrew 08-20-2025 11:33 AM

iI gave up on the Reflex fronts for now, and went to some PN Super Softs I gad buried in my bag o tires, and they are actually pretty good. they are a bit too soft, but NO TRACTION ROLL! I also went to my 2015 R8 body, and the car runs better, but there's something still not right with it.

So I went to my GLR, as I wasn't 100% happy with the ESC settings. The car feels like its got no bottom end. You grab the trigger, and the car starts to roll and gain a bit of speed, then rockets off! I got it the best I could after many adjustments, but I REALLY FEEL IT in turns 4, 5, and 6! It causes me to over run turn 6 and nose into the outside wall when I don't hit it just right! It's fast at a 3.7 second fast lap, but not very smooth! I have a 2500kv motor, geared at 10/53, on the Non Sensored GL ESC. I have a GL 3500Kv motor I can try, but other than that a new ESC would be needed.

Anyway, if I hadn't had those few noses into the 3rd turn wall I would have been in the 5:0xx for a 75 lap run! GOOD for ME!:p
