I would be interested in everyone's setup for this layout. I am running everything the same as last month.

Like PoorBoy I didn't do much. Turned the Throttle up and dropped the -Expo down to 10%. I will probably adjust the Drag Brake settings on my EVO's, but my GLR is PERFECT, and just the Loose NUT behind the wheel that keeps it's times where there at! :p

If my lap counted, using the avg lap time of 4.44, I would come in below 330 sec https://static.xx.fbcdn.net/images/e...1/16/1f525.png

Last lap was 8 seconds, I had to pick up my phone and stop the timer

YUP, that crap is exactly why I went to a IR transponder system! I'd be on a GREAT run and hit the wall and have a false lap, or it would miss a lap or 2 per run!!! INSTANT:flaming:!!! After getting my receiver bridge height figured out, my EasyLap hasn't missed a single lap since going to it from Laptrax on my phone, easily in the 10s of thousands of laps, as long as I wasn't sliding by on my roof!:p

I hear ya on the Battery problems and traction rolling, killing a good run! I run 3 sets of AAA batteries for my 6 AAA cars, and cycle through them keeping track of their specs and run times to tell me when to get new cells. You'll start feeling slow even when the batteries are just off the charger and your times will show it too. Running at least 5 days a week, one set of batteries each secession, the 3 sets will last me 6-8 months before needing replacement. And the 90mm RM cars (Porsche) love to find their lids with corner wall strikes or whipping them in the turns! Ya got to be VERY SMOOTH on the inputs, and that NB4 will help with that BIGTIME! So many adjustments that can help ya out!

My Son was here the last 5 days and I bound a RTR Tx back to my BoxStock so we both can drive and to see what he liked. First off I felt like a Newbie trying to use the RTR Tx!!! It just doesn't fit my hands and it's hard to control with my nerves. He tried it and ran 10-13 second laps with my BoxStock with a McLaren F1 GTR, which likes to grab the rails, going to my NB4 he dropped into the 9s. Then I switched him to my GLR, he's turned less than 100 laps with a mini z a this point, ever. Within 50 laps with my GLR and a Jomu body he was turning 7-8 second laps with a fast lap of 5.8!!! He then ran my Stock PN2.5 03EVO with a Jomu, and he ran 8-9s! He LOVED my GLR, really liked my Stock, and just thought the BoxStock was OK! It was interesting to see a fresh newbie try 1 car then the other and see their times! He was a better driver than me when he was 13, and my nerves were much better then! He travels alot with his job, but after seeing his face when driving the GLR, I see a track of his own soon!!!

Also on the tires you were talking about going to a HARDER PN tire to calm it down, but PN tires run backwards to most. Harder tires have more grip/most initial snap, where softs have the least. My track has quite a bit of grip, and I can't run hard PN tires, as I Traction Roll in every turn. Mediums are what I run most, KS suits me best, but I try KS, KS-M, and KSK with different layouts, as each type of the same hardness act differently. I also like to run +2mm 11mmWide rear wheels and +1mm 8.5 Narrow fronts on most bodies I run even if the take +3mm all around. Tires tend to last longer and the car rolls the middle of the corner better. It also protects the steering from wall strikes!

And it is common for drivers to have close lap times across all the classes they drive, though overalls will usually be shorter with better/more HP cars, as you can correct from a mistake faster. Your times will come down with the more laps you turn! So keep running, and HAVE FUN! Get a set of Kyo RWD wheels and experiment with different wheel off sets and how you like them. There like $25 for a full set of front and rears, and are the cheapest way to find what ya like. They are ok wheels, but I tend to crack the inner hubs, so I went to PN then 3D Disk wheels, but keep the Kyo's to test.

Stick with and have a BLAST!!!

I've got plenty of batteries, but could do better tracking them. Trying to discharge them after I'm done at least seems to help a bit. Last months layout I felt like I could get away with a second run on some batteries, but this one the straights are long enough where freshly charged seems to make a difference. More batteries rolling around the workbench now that three readyset controllers are empty too. Running that XSpeed motor normally I'm running some practice and then 75 laps just to take the edge off a bit before the run. But sometimes I just grab a car and go and forget how many laps the batteries have already done.

I got the set or Kyosho RWD wheels back when I broke a wheel on my first Mini Z. I've experimented a bit and had been running a 2/3 setup but got the new non Kyosho tires so was experimenting. I seem to have plenty of clearance on these running the Jomurema or C8.R. I definitely like how the PN fronts I got seem to last a while and the Marka slick rears are doing well. Going to have to order some more. I have one set of PN formula wheels (with the flange) and I think I might get another set, tried a 19mm front (+1.5) that works well, but I seem to be good at turning Kyosho low height front tires to dust and with that lip you can't run them for quite as long. Or maybe I should ask how close can you get to the diameter of a flange before you lose performance?

The Box Stock car just looks cooler with the black wheels it came with, seeing that rip around the track is kind of fun.

I had an extra main board sitting with my parts (Kyosho sent me one when my first Z was glitching out, they thought it was the servo/pot but ended up being the controller) so this month I decided to put together a PN2.5 car for the XSpeed motor. Soldering on boards is not my favorite but the car runs well and can be really fast if my reflexes match. Have had a few 3.9xx laps with it, so there is some room to improve consistency with that car for sure.

BoxxerBoyDrew 07-18-2025 01:28 AM

joelisenat, sounds like you are set on batteries, and we charge and discharge about the same! I usually get the best times when my batteries have at least 1 run on them. I feel slower then, but times don't lie. I too forget the charge in my batteries, so I got a bunch of AAA/AA plastic battery holders half in green and half in yellow. I put the charged in the green box and discharged in the yellow! Very helpful, and cheap on Alli express. They clip together, so they are easy to keep up with!

Kyo tires are good for fighting Traction Roll, but ware out fast! I like the PN front Marka rear tire combo best! Flanged wheels are nice, I run them sometimes but have now switched to 3D Disk wheels. I run tires on the flanged wheels till steering goes away. The tires will be at or below the edge of the flange.

Kyo wheels look great! I run the Black BBS +3s that came on my AMG GT3 on my Jomu's sometimes. The black wheels make it look like it's floating on the black RCP! VERY COOL ripping around the track!

I have built most of my Mini Z's from parts, I really enjoy that part of the hobby! One thing that has helped me with soldering these TINY boards, is a 10X lighted Magnified glass and a set of "Helping Hands" soldering jig!!! Got both on Amazon for less than $30 total! The padded large alligator clips hold everything perfectly in place!

Anyway, keep turning those laps, and having FUN!!!

BoxxerBoyDrew 07-18-2025 01:36 AM

Also, I've heard a few people bring it up in the posts, so I thought I would mention that changing standing/sitting position can make a big difference on your times! It makes it easier to see the difficult sections.

Anyway, Yall drive fast!

ekim628 07-18-2025 10:26 AM

This is true, there is huge a difference depending on where you stand. I like to sit down but standing up has given me better results and better view. I sit when I practice than stand when I do time runs.

When I sit, I can see what the car suspension is doing since I am lower to the ground. This helps me tune setup and gauge stiffness of my setup. I cant see that when I am standing up and it's fun to see the car rolling through the corners :tire:

I sit in a office chair raised to it's highest position. I'm going to try a director type raised folding chair so I can have something to sit on that I'm used to when/if I'm able to run in some local races that gives me a bit higher view. Standing gives me the best view, but I get dizzy trying to run more than a few laps that way. My track room is only a few feet wider than the track, so when your standing your almost looking straight down at it. I also have to relearn my lines going from standing to sitting, as everything changes as your sightline changes.
For this layout I sit at the end of the straight going into turn #1.

This layout is challenging on 90mm RM cars! I really have to back off going into the 180s to keep it on it's wheels!
Yall have fun!

joelisenat 07-22-2025 01:14 PM

Just to follow up because I was looking for an answer before, the PN Carbon body mount (Part CP150) for the older Porsche 911 GT3 RS (MZP150) does indeed fit the new body (MZP159). The carbon with the aluminum interchangeable mount does look pretty cool.

Got a few things from Kenon and am ready to try and get a few more runs in. Cleaned the track up the other day and traction is up so I'm going to have to be careful to keep the shiny side up.

BoxxerBoyDrew 07-28-2025 10:13 AM

I'm starting my of month timed runs, and I am beginning with my SWB cars first. I've been driving them the last few days and I'm used to their needed steering inputs to try to keep them on their wheels! I finally got my Porsche 911 GT3 RSR body to drive pretty well on my MX-5 chassis, since I made the porsche chassis into a 98mm brushed chassis. I was able to stay with PN KS1138 front tires on 19mm 0mm Disk wheels for both bodies, and just change the rear wheels to a 20mm 0mm PN BBS yellow with KSM Soft Radials worn to slicks from a 20mm -1mm DXR Carbon wheel with KSM- LH Soft slicks for the MX-5.

It wasn't my best time with 1 roll and a few stops from cutting the corners too close, but OK for 90mm on this layout! Track temp is 73* at 54% humidity. We're in our normal Texas summer time pattern with 100*+ days with little rain till October, so hopefully my cars will settle a bit.
