I hope yall are getting this layout down ok! It looks easy, but it's really challenging! Everything comes very quickly, and the stairstep section of turn 5 will straight up bite you in the a$$! I hope it isn't too much! The next layout options will be almost full sized with long runs! So hang in there! Drive Fast! |

Hey Ekim! The challenge is fun though it can be frustrating. You will learn car control and setup quickly, and the guys are quick to help! Post up times when you can, even if you are in last place it will give you something to look back on and see where you have progressed.

Hit my soft goal for Box Stock already today 4:24.910 my goal was to get under 4:25... Time to focus on the stock and open cars!

Been working on my Narrow chassis with the Yaris body, and I finally got it handling very well! Going to the 22.4mm super soft KS rear tires helped tons with the traction rolling! I also took the main spring off the Nexx Racing dual spring oil shock as it was very stiff, and it helped the rear end move easier but still have the "Oil Shock" part of it to help stop the chatter in the rear. I will try to pull it completely and try running the damper plates with lube to see if I can save the weight of the shock up high! Also went to a 10t pinion.
I also worked on the lighting in my track room, and it helped me see the corners of the track much better. Our house has indirect lighting, light boxes above the windows with the lighting pointing towards the celling. Which is nice for conversations and watching tv, but trying to see in detail, not soo good. So I mounted a harbor freight led shop light directly above the track, and WOW does it make a huge difference! Just the plain white of the White bodies is soo much more visible. I made a noticeable difference in the amount of mistakes made from clipping inside corners when pushing the pace! Now to get the paint laid down and the lights put in to finish the Yaris! Also got another McLaren 12C body in the works too. It is going to be a Box Stock Body, you can see the nose of it in the background!:sneaky: ( my other 12C has a very cut down splitter and more importantly it has Lexan windows, so not Box Stock legal) I did trim the splitter on the new body a bit ( less than 1/8th") to stop it from sticking the splitter under the rails of the track. Almost left it alone, but after sticking the nose under the rail a few times HARD, I didn't want to break another 12C! https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...754f918631.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...01b6af20e9.jpg Not the best overall time, but a 3.2 fast lap is good for me and this chassis! Only the 2nd run today, so I made more mistakes than I should! Hits with the wall at more of an angle than a brush will spin the Yaris around, causing long recovery times! a 4:20 should be a time I can get to by the end of the month! First run was a 4:55 with a fast lap of 3.3. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...9531e1a1b1.png |
Nice!
Went 4:21 with my Stock Evo today (3.247 hot lap) and was pretty happy with it then proceeded to run some 3 min practice runs for fun and hit a bunch of 3.1X's with a hot lap of 3.151 so i guess there's more in the car if i can get another clean run  |
4:21 is a great run! This is a very high risk, but high reward layout. I found I can make up a tenth or two staying in the throttle as much as possible in turn 4, but off line very much and I go ping-ponging through turn 5! :p I'm needing to do a tire order. The last few months of these sweeping high speed corners I have worn most of the tread off my rear radials ( on the cars I run radials on), and my Low Height fronts are now very low heights and a few are starting to develop more push through the 180* corners.
also it's GREAT to see Kyosho re-releasing the Porsche bodies! Hoping that more will join in the Porsche class without having to spend big $ on a old 911 body, and also they release them in White bodies so us old guys that need bright bodies to see these fast boogers can paint one up! |

My first post and run on this M96 challenge. It's a start with 2 more weeks to go in May for Box stock and AAA stock. Excited to be here racing this challenge. Always looking for help or suggestions to get better at racing Mini-Z's!

Much more room to improve but car is there, driver and old watery eyes are holding back the potential. It is hard to focus in that small space on that small track for 75 laps. I give props to those who drive clean. I come from years of driving bigger scale RC's and this challenge would have helped my driving skills improve for sure.
Traction has been weird since the track is new and has less than a handful of track days on it. Gonna focus on more laps bc everything else is excuses. Here is the pics of my garage M96 setup with LED lights for my old eyes. Any suggestions on how to keep my track from moving besides putting bricks along the sides? lol https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...6ca52ec9a0.jpg |
I posted some pics on face book on how I hold mine in place of a SLICK laminate wood floor, but basically I use scrap wood/trim about 2' long with servo tape on each end, placed in a corner or tight loop of the track, they hold the track in place against the walls. Just keep the pieces at or just above track weight, not wall height, to allow the walls to flex when you hit them. It will save your bodies, DON'T ASK!
NICE GARAGE! If your ever in Texas stop by as mine can use the help!:p https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...be8b6b8296.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...79ef4c4b71.jpg |
Saw a video of new Kyosho products including some Mini Z stuff. The new Mclaren body looked super slick!
