i see a lot of posts using the "Next Level Timing" system. any major advantages to this software? looks like it gives a few more stats ... Is everyone using the "free" version?

Notes- Not using full power is faster for me. My left tire is wearing out faster because of more right turns. I also changed out to a 7T, I wasn’t aware that it was mandatory.

PoorBoy and a few others use Flip Side, but it doesn't support the EZ Lap hardware I have. So depending on what hardware you have/get Next Level and Flip Side seem to be the most used. If you are software knowledgeable Zround is very adjustable, but I'm a software ID10t so I couldn't get it to work as I wanted. |

Then I decided which timing system that was compatible for this software. I was stuck between easylap and Ilap. Easy lap is cheaper and widely used. I did more researching and ended up with ilap. |
After seeing PoorBoys 102mm 787B run I wanted to try my 787B, so I stuck my 787B on my ProStock MR04 chassis and it is flat running! A few less mistakes and I would have been under 4 minutes!

installed and tried it... didn't like it ill go back to Flipside timing. - I use an old laptop so it's "air-gapped" i leave it off the internet because it is old and doesn't have security updates... The Next timing does work with wifi turned off so that was nice but it appears for certain features it wants you connected. - the lap sound is okay but having the lap times announced live on the Flipside software is great - Also the flipside announces at 50 laps, 30 laps, 20, 10... also nice feature... - Flipside I can add racers easily offline and assign transponders different names i didn't see this in the Next software... Data shown on the Next Level is nice but im thinking ill see if i can just export my race data from Flipside into a sheet that would give me the same readout... |
Thanks for the update AM03GT! On Next Level to get the lap times called out you use the "practice" laps and "race" laps to get a beep. The lap countdown you mentioned is a feature I wish Next Level had! Maybe Flip Side can add EZ Lap hardware into their software.

Is there a class for newcomers to use "training mode" / "50%"? I think that would be a fun class designed for amateur drivers with less powerful cars, focusing on the perfect racing line and carrying speed. This would look pleasing due to its affordability and accessibility over outright speed, less wear and tear on the car, allowing novice drivers to participate while still experiencing the thrill of competition. This could bring more newcomers to join.

iDChuck, a Training Mode race sounds interesting, but after driving Brushless motor cars, my Box Stock car feels like it's in training mode already!
I did get a pre-birthday order in this week, don't tell the Wife:sneaky:, and I have been working on a few cars to get them more to my liking and it has helped quite a bit. First off I ordered 2 sensored motors to try in my Open chassis, as the 8500kv Kyosho motor was just too much on the Mini-96. I geared it as low as possible, turned down the ICS settings, and it just didn't feel right. It was almost like Turbo Lag in a full size car. I would punch the trigger and it would take off somewhat slowly then just take off after a few feet. So I ordered a PN Anima V3 5500kv and a V4 3500kv. I put the 3500kv in to see if it was too slow after reading about the MR04 being underpowered compared to the MR03, and it is a bit slower but MUCH SMOOTHER in the 04! Gearing seems to have made the difference unnoticeable between my MR03 EVO w/ PN 3500kv unsensored and my MR04 EVO w/PN Anima 3500kv sensored. It is MUCH MORE DRIVABLE with the 3500kv vs. the 8500kv. The Anima 3500kv might be underpowered in the 04 with a hard body, but with a Lexan body it RIPS!!! Next, I needed more steering from my MR03/PN 2.5W Stock chassis. The steering D/R was at 100% and it was ok, but compared to a MR04 I was having to wait for the car rolling through the corner instead of carving the corners. So I went to 04 arms and bottom plate, and HOLY CRAP it is a HUGE DIFFERENCE!!! I went to 80% steering d/r, and it's planted like my 04s are! I went with Reflex 04 knuckles, and while they are nice and made well, I don't know if they were work the extra cost over the Nexx Racing knuckles. Almost $20 more when you figure the higher cost of the knuckles, shipping and tax! Either way, 04 arms on an 03 chassis is the way to go if you are needing better steering on your 03s! Last, I got a Mako RAD Lexan Body to try on my open chassis. The Golem Bee body is cool a$$ cool, but not a very racy body! It is very tall, and causes just a hint of traction roll, so I bet the RAD body will take care of that. I really like how the car drives with a lexan body, but I 'm glad I listened to EMU and waited to try them on a mini z! They for sure don't play nice with the track walls compared to hard bodies, but I sure like how the car handles with them! Hopefully it shows up tomorrow as scheduled ahead of the very cold and ice they are forecasting! Anyway, hope Yall are well and warm! I didn't get any full runs after changes as my rt arm has been pretty numb for the last 2 days. Hopefully later today or tomorrow I can get full run times to show improvement! P.S. Next Level is very easy to use, and has never missed a single lap for me! I went to the pro version after my computer crashed and loosing my old races, and the pro version saves them, or at least I couldn't find where the free version saves them. I do wish you could set it to announce laps. Like every ten laps, or give announcement of so many laps to go, but other than that it's great.

chjosi, just need a set of 04 arms and bottom plate (MZ710), 04 Suspension Shaft set (MZ711), 04 Suspension Small Parts (MZ708), 04 Spring Set (MZ701). The MZ708 part set comes with 0 Wide and Narrow tie rods you'll need as well as plastic knuckles. The plastic knuckles are fragile, so I would suggest some aluminum knuckles. I have tried Nexx Racing and Reflex and they are nice as you can adjust above and below the knuckle on the kingpin, where the aluminum Kyosho knucks are fixed and only adjustable below the knuck. The Reflex have a bit tighter tolerances compared to the Nexx. Nexx come with the lower pivot balls for the bottom arms as they use a slightly smaller kingpin, so if you have some upper arm screws already you can save yourself $5 and not ordering the MZ711 listed above.
Hope this helps! Update: After having both Nexx and Reflex Knucks for a short time, they are both good. At first the Reflex were a bit tighter on the king pin, but after a few thousand laps on each I can't tell the difference. Besides what I said above, the only thing I worry about on the Reflex is the wheel shaft is Aluminum. So when you screw on the wheel nut you have to be careful not to cross thread it!!! But I ordered a second set of Reflex knucks for my 04 Box Stock, as they had them in stock, + their a Texas company so my money stays here. |
