Just updated my post! made it under 280 and got my cleanest run yet... 2 5 second laps means there is still room for improvement... Also did a thing and put together an auto fill data sheet using the Flipside html Report...

Also wanted to run my colors so I got a new SC430 body. Expected it to steer as well as the R8 or better with more stability and it does just that! The only drawback is the splitter does have a much higher wedge risk as I've gotten stuck under the rails a time or two .

Super clean run!! Your consistance is great.

I want to test it a little longer but i dont mind sharing my excel sheet if anyone else using Flipside timing wants it.

It's not super basic but also not overly complicated.

I "view report" from the software then pull the "race.html" file. Using free ChatGPT i upload the file and give it a simple prompt to give me the data in CSV spreadsheet format which can be opened in Excel. So far it either spits out 2 files 1 for the top row of data shown on the report and a 2nd for the lap times or in some cases all in one file.

From there I just cut and past the data that matches what is in my excel template and the output is what I posted...

Is there any way to handle missed laps? I've been running my open 2wd but normally get at least 1-2 missed laps...

No easy way to deal with it after the fact.

Missed laps issues can usually be fixed with transponder or lap counter placement. Another thing to check is your minimum lap time settings.

AM03GT 01-24-2025 12:11 PM

Ok yea it seems to happen when I go through at high speed at a certain angle... A fast line right to the inside... I'll try to adjust some to see if I can remedy it.

I can split the laps in the Flip side software but then it adds laps that need to be dropped from the end...

Guess I'll just keep running till I get a clean one.

AM03GT, I had trouble with missed laps when first setting up my EZ Laps sensor bridge going by the height instructions it came with. So after looking at peopled tracks online I went with a sensor height of 12" from the track surface and evenly spaced them starting 1.5" in from each wall. After that I haven't missed a lap since. Here's a pic and keep up with the fast times!!

Thanks i did try lifting the timing gate about an inch to see if it was an angle issue. I realized i was running the super-micro ilaps in my open 2wd. its never had issues at full size tracks but i do know they stopped making it and now make the mini version. I swapped to the newer one i had and so far it seems good maybe that was the issue fingers crossed.

I think generally more front tire (larger diameter) gives more steering for these tight courses but I'm cheap so I like to "use up" my tires before swapping to a fresh set. What is everyone's threshold for what "used up" means? On my open 2wd my fronts are down to about 21.5mm inner... Is this too thin and time to throw out?

AM03GT 01-25-2025 11:58 AM

About as good as I can do I think I only left ~1 sec on the table... Hot Lap is just over 3.0 with this car but i think ill need fresh tires to do any better

I too probably run tires too long, but I usually run them till they no longer work to my liking. On the 03s it was till the inside of the tire gets too thin on the lip of the wheel and starts lifting and you can see holes in the tire itself with a light behind it. :p The only tires I have worn out on a 04 was s set of Kyo 20* Low Height tires, and the traction went away on them before the inside wore out to that level. I find when the fronts are getting too worn the cornering goes away and the front end starts to push in the corners. When that's the case I change them. On a side note, I like wrapping old front tires on my wrench handles! Makes a good grip and helps get the correct amount of force. I've tried measuring with calipers, but I go more by feel, as it's different with every chassis, even when you have 2 that are setup the same. At least thats what works for me, and my amount of experience.

I seem to have much less tire ware on the 04s. I don't know if it is because they have soo much more steering, so use the tires less, or the angles changed in the 04 geometry vs. the 03, but however it's happening, it's a welcome thing! You just have to worry Traction Roll a lot more.

Starting my timed runs for the month, and while most of my cars are running very well my neck and arms are giving my fits, and my hands start to go numb after 50 or so laps! So my mistakes and lap times go up a bit, but this Layout is FUN!!!

Notes- Running OK. It's hard to get used to the low power of the brushed motor ReadySet MR03 compared to the 03/04EVO's!
I put in a new motor, and it has a bit more power, but it still feels soo slow. Throttle and Steering are at 100%, so I'm seriously thinking of going to 04 arms!

Notes- Went to 04 Arms and Reflex aluminum knuckles, and it has SOOOO MUCH more steering! With that it did take a bit of experimenting to get the right tire combo to fight TR, but once I figured it out, DAMN IT'S GOOD!!! I mistakenly ordered 1* Reflex knuckles, but they rip so who cares! It still has just a hit of TR off the straight into the 90*, so I had to back off of it a bit to keep it off i's lid, but I know it is capable of a sub 3 second lap!
