I decided to look further and did find my Narrow run! I keep track of times on a dry erase board and normally take a photo of my screen if it was a good time, forgot in this case and had a lot of runs to look through.
Class- Narrow 90MM Date- 2-21-26 Location- Omaha, NE Race Time- 5:40.756 or 340.756 Fastest Lap- 4.088 Chassis- MR03 Body- Subaru Sambar (First MiniZ) Wheelbase- 90 Tires- 40 Super low height front 20 low height rear 0/0 offset narrow wheels Motor- Stock Batteries- Gens Ace Front Springs- Orange T-Plate- PN 5 carbon Motor Mount- RM Dampener (If applicable)- Stock Dampener Fluid (If applicable)- Mostly dry (Kyosho 5k) Gearing - 7T Notes- This was a challenge to drive but looked so cool! Don't remember if this run included a traction roll off the track at turn one (most runs did!) Figured out the Mclaren 12C nose clip matches, I did end up using my PN mount to mess with ride heights. Only Mini Z I have that can roll onto it's side and bounce back up. I will say it was a lot easier to drive on a bigger track, just the tight turns of the Mini96 made it a lot tougher. Hopefully I can get the chassis I have been using for this and the Porsche sorted out and give this another try next month. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...db0fba6c5a.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...3d0ce5b1b.jpeg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...9068b5db76.jpg |

Thanks very much for the information, I am gonna have to get some serious practice in to try and get some respectable lap times, you all seem so quick!!
Anyway, have fun, and remember to breathe and blink! :p |
Spot on tips Andy. Slower is faster is a real think in this challenge. I don't breathe or blink for the full 4 minutes, that is my secret to going fast LOLOLOL.

I also included some runs that didn't have all the info. Please use the format posted in the rules, as it makes it easier for the Mods to post, Thanks! Again Thanks for running with us, and HAVE FUN on March/April's FAST Layout!!! Andy (BoxxerBoyDrew) C. |
March layouts first timed run with my OPEN GLR, with the same settings and setup as last moth. It ran pretty well, and I had plenty of quick doinks, but 3 times I clipped the inside corner in turn 2 and spun the car 180*, so it had me in the 6+ second laps for those foul ups, but a 3.311 fast lap, gives me hope! I had only driven about 100 laps on this layout since the change, darn back!, but a 4:47 isn't too bad considering the lack of driving the last few weeks! I'll have to check against my last times I had when we ran this, so I'm interested to see how much, if any, I've gotten better!:p
This is a course that is mostly full send it, so for those that are learning, you can either unscrew the top off the wall pin or completely remove a wall pin in a area where you hit it alot, to soften the blow a little when you smack it hard! I have done it on a few layouts, usually in a troublesome corner, and it has saved a few bodies! It kills the run, as you can slide under the wall and wedge the car, but again , it saves the noses of your bodies! Especially if you don't run bumper front nose clips or reinforce the nose of the body itself! It's not a huge concern when you start out, but when the speed comes, the broken bodies seem to follow! At least in my case! :D Take Care and Drive Fast!!! https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...dd2c61120f.png |
Hi all, I am looking for some advice, please. I am new to Mini-Z racing, but I have lots of experience in buggy racing, so not new to RC. I have built the March track and finding corner 4 very tight to get through. I am running the McLaren 720S (MR04 brushed), is there a better car to get started with? I sort of feel a narrower car might help? The only thing I have changed on the car so far is the tyres. Any tips gratefully received, happy to spend to get the right set-up - thanks :)

I run a 720S for my BoxStock car, and it seems to run the layout pretty well, but you are right the 720 is a little wide in the front, compared to some. I haven't run my 12C yet, it's on my ProStock, but it is a little narrower that the 720S, and has more turn (at least for me). I'm pretty sure I have PN KS1142 (Low height hard) on my BoxStock, but I usually run 1138. I also find i get more steering when i run KS Soft Radials on the rear of my BoxStock. T plates can be a big help dialing in the car as well as front springs. Starting out i liked my cars with #4 or 5 carbon t plates and white front springs ( very stiff). I came from dirt oval and off road, and the soft cars felt weird. After a while of testing and running, I got used to a softer car, and went to mainly carbon #3 or fiberglass #4 and usually purple front springs. Also putting 15k grease on the top shock helps the car feel settled. Some use 15k on the front spindles too, but I dont feel an improvement vs. the constant need to clean rubber dust out of them. Hitting turn 4 right, 4 me, takes the right timing on the throttle release out of turn 3, and using the drag of the brushed motor (or drag break on BL) to reduse speed and shift the weight forward to get the car turning like you want it. If you have a radio with expo control, some negative expo can help dial.in your steering to suit you too. My NB4 is one of the BEST things i got for mini z racing! Hope this helps, and keep turning those laps! |
