Dude, use the red o-rings, put some silicone oil on them when inserting the outdrive, and shim the outdrive to put some pressure on the o-ring. The red o-rings are tight on the outdrive, if they are not lubed, they'll spin with it. Both my 419 diffs needed one .1mm shim on the outdrives (outside). Try pushing the outdrive in and out when you shim it and stop when you have no play, but not very tight (when it's too tight it will be difficult to insert the sun gear drive pin).

Are you using bushings or bearings?

I am telling you i have built the diff 10 different ways maybe. |
Good point. Im using bushings and no leak on diff.
Shocks: everyone acts like this shocks are so different. They're the same TRF shocks we always used, they simply bored out the walls. I built mine standard and no issues. If your still having leaks, then run two o-rings + shock guide like the old days, in place of the one piece insert Simmi, what bumper are you using? |

Hi all, I have a question for those who have raced the 417x / V5 / raceberry cars and the 419. Would you say the 419 is a large step forward? Last year I got my 417X smokem to the front of our TC Stock at club racing, but I am still considering upgrading both cars. I run a RB V5 in mod, and although I get schooled, I am sure its my driving still. We run on med grip carpet and rubber tires.
If the 419 is a large upgrade, could you explain where? The diff? The suspension? These things I can upgrade to on my 417s, but is the layout, bulkheads, motor mount where the real upgrade is? Chassis flex? My original 417 was terrible in mod, until I got the RB chassis plates etc, so I was wondering if the 419 has a lot more chassis flex? I have looked over many pages, and didn't spot any feedback on this specific subject, so my apologies if this question has been answered before. |

Not sure about the 419, but on the 418 you had to fix the flex problem yourself by using one of the aftermarket options like the Samix one piece motor mount or perhaps one of the many chassis options.
The Samix mount is pretty much like the Yokomo 2015, which I think it's key (I use one). Tamiya's mount on the 419 still looks too rigid but offers more options to bolt to the chassis, so maybe it works. The biggest step forward looks like the new diff, but not all of it, just the casing. The rest is still pretty mediocre, crap screws, crap shims, crap gears. Nice cross shafts though. The outdrives are nice too, but these have been for a while. Nice but pointless keying of the diff halves. Makes assembly that much fiddlier totally unnecessarily. I think Tamiya still has some work to do on some of the plastics (suspension - big deal, very sloppy) and really, some proper diff shims, how much can they cost?! Oh, and driveshaft protectors, they're totally crap. A bit disappointing to have to borrow all these things from other cars after dishing out top bucks on a kit. |

No kit is perfect.
The 419 comes with a lot of included parts would be considered a hop up on kits like a BD7. I had a BD7 and felt the plastic parts were crap and cheap. They can't even anodise all the aluminium parts consistently. |
Guys - could I drop in a 418 diff in my 419 without any modification? I didn't want to try unless someone knew for sure.

While I can't answer this from experience i will tell you there is a guy at our track that ran a 417 and schooled all us guys with the 419's. I think that unless you are really good the car wont be an upgrade but like me i like to just have the latest version because i can.

How many 417's are still on the track? Is this TQRC you're talking about? I've got a 419 setup that works now. Consistent 10.2-10.3 on new layout easily with the QTS32 tires using Samix alum chassis. Did some homework a couple of seeks ago and helped one of the 17.5 guys out. I will see how it does with the carbon chassis when I build mine.

You are one of the guys I was referring to before you went modern on us ;-) about time you step up to the 419 and got rid of the crappy other brand, oh wait that was a gift. I take that back.
