you still need to use tape for this...the TA07MS battery mounting system might work for this car as it is tapeless, but I havent see anyone try that yet, nor do I know if that mount can be bought separately.

Another way is just by some aluminum standoffs, and some scrape carbon fiber pieces and DIY your own.

They go under the name 'atyhobby' on ebay. Can often be cheaper to buy through ebay, especially when ebay has coupons/deals, just check what shipping method you use because the cheap shipping option on ebay can take a long time (read: up to a month) to arrive depending where you are located. I've bought plenty of stuff from them both via ebay and their own website and no problems

The TA07MS battery holders are heavy. The lower part that holds the battery is made of steel 12.7g (each)

the upper poss and csrbon stand off are light (4g) I think those are made to hold light life batteries and offset the weight.

Any advice for how much oil to fill (in terms of weight in grams) when using the aluminum case and cover for the gear diffs? Since they hold more than the plastic ones.

Thanks!

Weigh/prop your 1/2 gear diff assembly on a scale and add 1.5g

To reply my own question, I filled the bottom end of the diff to 16g (weight includes lower aluminum case assembly + metal shafts + aluminum joints, I forgot to weigh it dry).

All gears were lightly sanded to remove flashings from the ejector pins/molding on the flat side. Since the green gasket that comes with the aluminum diff cover is slightly thinner than the brown ones from the plastic version (0.4 vs 0.5), using 0.3mm shims on the top and bottom felt way too tight and notchy.

I ended up with 0.2mm (0.1+0.1mm) large bevel shim on the cover side, 0.3mm on the bottom end, and 0.1mm on small bevels (all shims from large diameter shim kit 42313 with orange TRF orings).

So far no leaks yet and feels smooth. Obviously, the above may vary from one assembly to another.

Track size? Motor?

I think if you have a 96 and a 104 on hand you should be pretty covered for most motors. Pinions will vary but you should be able to make most things work out from there.

The 100t should be good. I don't know where all the current crop of 21.5 motors are being geared but you should be able to get there with that using pinions from 44-51t.
