I'm trying to get a 3.2 fdr for a 21.5 motor for USGT class. I wanted to stay with Tamiya pitch gears, but can't seem to find 04 module as big as I need to use with the 96t spur.

How are they compared to full length? Do you have to do anything to them to get full droop? I am not sure the VBCs are long enough even though smokem suggests them as an option.

Fits fine, only thing is the spring is rather larger in diameter than normal. I have full droop and they're 3mm taller than the xray springs. I can adjust my droop without any issues. When I ran normal springs it was too long even with a tamiya offset large lower retainer. I like the lower shock setup only for indoor small tracks with fast transitions. I didn't see much improvement in times but I like the way the car drive in terms of response. I didn't try vbc springs and don't plan too.

4.8 high? I was going to suggest maybe the opposite if temps allowed it!

My x20 loves to be pushed into the 5's even at stock timing. In fact, LRP recommend it.

I was basing the opinion on pushing the fleta zx to 5's as well by referencing Kentechs setup for the Euro series at Grand Canaria. He ran a smudge over 5 flat - that was with a handout 13.5t, can't imagine it being that much different??

I think 4.1 seems very low. Even my old novak ballistic liked 4.5 or thereabouts for on road.

But if it works for you and your track, it can't be wrong :)

Moving away from the tamiya pitch gears definitely isn't a bad idea. I assume the 96t is one from a TB or similar? Of so it's not quite the right size for a 418 anyway (can be made to fit I expect, just not with the e ring installed)

You can successfully run std 64 pitch pinions with tamiya 0.4 spurs though.

You guys may be referring to gear ratios incorrectly, hate to be the guy pointing it out. Tall gearing: low fdr numbers. Short gearing: high fdr numbers. 4.8 is pretty short gearing for a 13.5, maybe that's why he likes the acceleration but car has no top end. Outdoor medium track on my 13.5 I'm at 3.8-4.0 fdr on my novak 13.5

Gearing is really both track dependent and how hard the motor can rev. A 13.5 that can rev harder (either more timing or by design) can cope with shorter gearing and achieve the same top speed.

Both of these are with Fleta ZX 13.5T Euro, which is equivalent to a type W with bottomed out timing. Plus a blinky ESC.

And another (but in a serpent) running 6.2 with the now outlawed D3.5. This guy made the podium at the nationals here in australia last year. Big track, used for 5th scale on road. Blinky ESC but timing is open.

Referring back to my post that fdr is for blinky. Boosted is a different story.

The ETS has a spec ratio (along with fixed timing).

And, the 6.2FDR is with boost and turbo!

I am trying it fit VBC shocks not just springs. I think they may be too short with the stock ends.

Aha, didn't realise that the FDR was also fixed for ETS.

I see, well if you get it together let everyone know how it turns out! I have yokomo slf shocks that I may try also.

If I were you I would go to a 64 pitch panaracer or rw spurs. Leespeed sells a 84 pitch spur and pinion, with that you should be able to fit a gear combo to achieve you're 3.2 fdr. Beamcat stocks panaracer overseas in hk and Leespeed can be bought by teameam Motorsports.

VBC Big Bores are a straight fit. They are the same length as the Tamiya Short Shocks.
