I run at speedline i see that you are geared at a 7.00 frd with thr rdx you need to drop a few teeth to a 20 or 21 t pinion

no rdx for me , and I dont have to cut the blue wire,mine comes of the track around 161 to 164

some where in there , also after your run check the temp of the esc. but like i said if you gear properlly you shouldnt have any probles with thermal shutdown

Hi guys, I'm currently running the Novak GTB 5.5R brushless system and experiencing this problem of the car slowing down after 3 minutes +/- into play. My final drive ratio is 9.01. I am pretty sure my drive ratio is within range as some of my friends are running @ 8.85 without any thermalling problems. What could the problem be? Hope to get some answers here. Thx in advance.

dude, if your car slows down instead of going to a halt, you have a faulty temp sensor, send it back to Novak for replacement. I contacted charlie and he asked me to send it back for replacement. So I did, and my replacement doesnt have the problem anymore.

We'll have these available again later in the week. Sometimes this fan has a problem with the o-ring coming off of the shaft that holds the blades in, so it kind of "needs" a dab of med or thick CA to be applied to this area. We go ahead and perform this mod to all the 30mm fans that we ship out. It seems to push close to two times more air than the stock Novak fan...you can hear it LOL.

But, would it not be safer to get the 4.5 and just gear it suit your track to prevent the overgearing issue?

I've been reading up on the GTB, and it sounds like most of the issues are due to overgearing.

So having said this, would I experience any issues running the GTB in stock?

I would like to know the answer to this question too as I've just recently ordered myself a GTB 4.5R system and I don't wish to encounter any of these problems.

I just ran a GTB/4.5R combo for the NSW state titles here in oz. Prolly a medium size circuit with some open, some technical bits. I ran 23mm rollout (recomended 20mm max) on IB3800's and had no probs with thermal. Approx 300mAh left after each run (almost dumped) with no thermal probs. The car was the fastest/most powerful I saw on track (kept getting compliments all day) and equal second fastest for lap speed. Ambient was approx 25degrees celcius.

If you are having probs it is most likely a faulty unit so just send it back. It seems to be you just gear till it thermals then go back one pinion tho I didn't need to in this case.

Seems like the 4.5R has been the dagger in the heart of modified brushed motors. I wonder if 2007 will be the year we see most of the big names in mod make the switch. If that happens, it could be a swift decline for brushed motors after that. I, for one, won't shed a tear.

i think most pro drivers will give it more time for Novak and LRP to further improve the thermal and reliability problems that the ESCs have.

Try running the 4.5 in desert or tropical climates at noon time, the system tends to thermal shutdown while you're busy racing. It made many curse the system and tends to go back to brushed motors.
