my last tower order was shipped from sweden, and took 5 weeks to get here... bizarre...

anyway, this new brushless system sure looks interesting, as im moving from stock to mod soon this might be worth looking at.. so im also interested in more reports from people who have tried it..

also, will there be lower turn motors released soon, or is 5.5 as low as novak plans to go with this system?

At the Reedy Race, the Novak guys said they ran a hotter motor than the 5.5. But I have no idea when it will be out.

Charlie: Just got my GTB with 6.5 and am fitting it in a B4. I know you said previously that you got it to fit under the body just or that you could move the fan to the side but I am having trouble fitting either option.

Is it okay to run without the fan in a buggy?

In case anyone is interested 48380 rpm from a 6.5 motor off a charged pack just spinning the wheels not loaded. Though my understanding of AC motors is that the RPM is reasonably constant but current draw will increase for load so I guess this is a representative RPM.

Sorry can't tell you the exact voltage didn't have a multimeter handy.

I have the older SS ESC with a 5800 (8.5 turn) in a B4 and there is almost no way you could fit it under the body without distorting the body. I cut the body out around it. I know a guy who did not cut the body out and it thermalled a couple times.

I guess I don't quite understand enough about the controller, but I have to wonder why the sensorless ESCs (no comparision to Novak for control at low speed) like from Castle can be so small and light with no heat sink. I know people who are not going to buy this new system because of the size/weight of the ESC. Also worsened by the recent addition of the fan, which seems like it could be a band aid for an inherently underdesigned system. Just playing devils advocate here as to why brushless is having a hard time catching on. Again, I am totally pro-brushless and will continue to use them, because they make this hobby easier for me.

The AC motor comparision for RPM is not quite right, since in an AC induction motor the stator phases are always fired at 60Hz (or at the AC source frequency), whereas with hobby brushless (DC source) the stator phases are fired in time to the motor speed (and other variables). A hobby brushless ESC is sort of a DC to variable frequency AC converter.

Just wondering if anyone has any pics of their systems installed yet???

Also, wanting some feedback about the systems performance against brushed motors.

Thanks.

I've seen that pic already, I was hoping for actual pics of the system installed in a tc.

Thanks.

Gordon, Thanks, I'll let our engineers know about your "simple" suggestions.

I don't know of any hobby shops inventory status, sorry.

If you mount the fan flat on the heatsink, take off the black spacers, you should be able to squeeze here under the body. If not, the fan is long enough, that you and put it in front of the ESC blowing back at it.

I don't have any information regarding "when" things will ship at this time.

Default GTB in RDX

Here are some shots of the GTB setup in my RDX. Super tight fit...Had to move the receiver on top of the servo. Just a quick setup for now.

Looks good. I would try to get a motor guard to suit as a few hits on the endbell might damage the motor.
