I thought about this for a while, I couldn't think of a valid solid reason one way or the other....

The pro for the XV-01, from a STOCK perspective, is that the kit already includes oil filled damper/shocks and full ball bearings. Both are essential for racing.
The stock TT-02 does not include these unless you buy an upgraded version of the kit such as a TT-02r or other variation.

One could argue that the shaft drivetrain of the TT-02 is better balanced with the motor located mid chassis, as opposed to the front motored XV-01.
However, the material in the XV-01 is better quality in general and a level up from the beginner platform that TT-02 is really intended.....
From my perspective, its a coin toss....

I have a TT02RR, TT02 Type S, TA05 and XV01 Pro for street runs, bashing, at some point I have also raced all 4 on black carpet. Of the 4, the TT02RR has the inferior suspension geometry and is the most limited. The Type S performs very close to the TA05 and is very neutral in handling. For rallye however, none of them come close to an XV01. The reason is mid motor vs front motor behaviour.
I live in a closed community with amazing fresh and smooth asphalt. I live on a corner entrance to a cul de sac. The main street is long enough for you to hit 100 if your car can do it. My TA05 is set up for speed with a 3.5 and sorex tires. On the main street it will hit 60. My XV-01 has a 17.5 with 30° timing hits 40mph on rallye block tyres.

With the XV01, I’m able to come full throttle and left off slightly, take a 90° turn into my cul de sac, get right back on throttle. The XV will do a smooth controllable drift on to my street. If I attempt the same turn at same speed with TA05 on Sorex slicks or even USGT tyres, it will simply slide down the street.

I have taken both TT02 and XV to snow, again the XV outshines it on snow. The same goes for dirt. I have actually ran my XV on a 1/8 off road track and it took the jumps like a champ.. the only one it would not clear was the big jump and if I had programmed the 17.5 for boost, it would have cleared it.

First time RC builder and I’m about to get my first TT02D kit (R32).
Very keen to build it!! Questions I have for you pros are:
Ive read about different types of batteries and decided on Lipo 2s. However, they come in many
different plug variants and even diff sizes.how to pick the right one and I guess something that will work
with the stock motor and stock esc, should I just wait and just take the assembled car to the hobby shop lol?

Lastly, I’ve purchased Savox sc0252 servo (read that they are decent and good value). Do you think it will be ok
for the car or should I get something else? If this is discussed somewhere on this forum, please send link!

Welcome to the TT02 club :) So regarding the battery question, first of all unless you have the new TBLE04S, the stock Tamiya ESCs do not have a proper voltage cutoff. Voltage cutoff is very important when using LiPO batteries as they can be damaged by discharging them too low. You can get around this with having an external LiPO alarm but your money might be better spent on a new ESC, something like the Hobbywing 1060. Back to the battery, just need to find a battery that has standard dimensions. This is typically less than 139mm in length, 25mm in height, and 45mm in width. Regarding the plug type, this can be tricky. Any battery you buy you can always get an adapter from its connector of the ESC if they do not match. Otherwise, you can always replace the battery plugs by soldering if you're comfortable, or have a hobbyshop that can help. These days I gravitate to XT60 connectors for my basic 2S, and light duty 3S stuff.

That servo should be sufficient, but it might be a bit on the slow side. It is pretty powerful, so that won't be an issue for your application. Hopefully someone with more drifting experience can chime in.

Thanks for your input! I’ve ordered the 1060 esc and now looking around for batteries. Might wait until the kit arrives to have the exact dimensions for the battery slot. Was thinking of buying Turnigy 5000mah 7.4 60c, read only good things about it. Any suggestions in the battery department? Again not sure if it has the right plug but apparently adapters are easy to get. Thanks!

I am trying to decide which bodies are better performance on the track.. not necessary better looking bodies kit
My Three choices are the Mustang GT4 or Porsche GT2 or Ford car sport GT ?

Majority of us used the Mercedes. The Ford GT wasn’t available yet

The Porsche GT2 has a wheelbase of 236mm, which is too short for TT-02 chassis. (TT-02 can 251 or 257mm)
The new Ford GT is not available yet.
Mustang GT4 is therefore your choice of the day.

Hey guys. Just got done with my first TCS race in GT Pro Spec. Finished dead last in both qualy’s and main. I have some suspicion that some of the other guys were running a slightly lower FDR but oh well. it was a fun and a good learning experience.

Im now going to focus on weight reduction and hoping you all can help me. I want to use a shorty lipo and know that i will need to tape it down. Would it be against tcs rules to remove the stock battery strap and mounting posts since I may not need it after taping down the battery?

Why not keep the original battery holder and fill up the free space with some foam material? This makes it also easy to do some front-rear weight shifting if necessary.
