The instructions out of the package say two teeth up from a brushed 27t, the tc4 instructions recommend you to run a 28t on a 27 turn motor which would put the starting point at a 30t does that seem a bit undergeared for a motor that only puts out 2,200kv?

I am planning to run LIPO with this, I can geared it as high as 69/32 with my available pinoin selection which puts it at 5.39 FDR.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
with the 17.5, try to get the fdr down to mid 4's Trust me it will take even more

what was the internal ratio of the tc4, something like 2.42 or something (I dont remember). You will have to find out what the smallest spur you can get for that. Its going to be tuff
82 spur
45 pinion
assuming its a 2.42 internal ratio
=4.40

yes thats with 64 pitch

Internal is 2.5. Looks like I will have to take a trip to the hobby shop and see what I can come up with for 64p gears

84 s
45 p
=
4.666

spur / pinion = ( ) x 2.5 = fdr (I'm sure you already know)
Just play with a calculator, based on what gears you can find at the hobby shop. Hope this helps.

It does thank you. I may shoot for a 4.5 FDR and take it from there. I am interested in seeing the speed this motor produces against other motors. Thanks again.

TC4 internal ratio will be 2.51 not 2.42 --- just for an advice running in car park dont use 64pitch spur the small stone will destroy your spur.............use 48 pitch i never change my TC4 spur at the moment it install with robinson spur 48p it's tough

Read on past that post, I was "corrected" on the intenal ratio

I havent bought 48 pitch anything for onroad since the tc3 lol, so not sure on the availability of sizes needed to get the ratio needed

convikt, I hope that I didnt come across as unappreciateve of your help with the gearing? I am grateful for the help.
I agree that 64p may not be the optimal pitch for parking lot style racing, I know that there are people who run 64p gears on this track successfully as the hobby shop does a very good job of prepping the parking lot area that is used for the track. Is there another option I can go to get some thing close to the 4.0 FDR and not use 64p gears?

I know the idea behind the 17.5 motor is to "slow" things down for stock racing, which I am certainly fine with. I had a 13.5 to begin with but with the new ROAR rules, I like to be inline with what the rules are going to be. It will be an interesting test this weekend to see how I can do with this motor as this will be my first time racing on-road.

I plan to try the recommended gearing in practice to see how it stacks up against a 27t overall but would like to have some options to go to in the event that the +2 teeth over puts me in a position that I am in the way of racing more than I am getting around the track.

There is no Novice class on this track there are only Stock and 19t classes.

Thanks for all the advise.

I honestly doubt you'll get an answer - I haven't ever seen a drifter on this thread, and I'd mock them if I had.

Drifting is to auto-racing what figure skating is to hockey.

IMO. Rarely if ever. You can MAKE the car work with sway bars... but you can raise the inner hingepin mounts to reduce excessive roll, and soften your main springs till you find a setup/compromise that gives you max grip, great rotation, and overall balance. Are you running rubber or foams on the asphalt?

running rubber tires. takeoffs. running 35wt oil all around with blue springs in rear and greens in front. the rear sometimes trys to come around. thats why i was asking about swaybars.
