Thanks. March race at Harbor for sure... slim chance of making the Feb race in Omaha due to work travel schedule (but never say never ).

I recently had the same problem with my V5 chassis. I couldn't find a stock replacement anywhere so I went with the Smokem Chassis. I received it in a couple of days and had great response/customer service from them.

I got the 417FX version which is a straight bolt on. I have only ran it once since I switched over to this chassis plate but found that it had way more traction over the stock V5 chassis plate.

Hi eevul,

I'm looking to get the Smokem chassis as well, did you use the FX outdoor or carpet?

What final drive ratio are you trying to get to?

Right now I'm running 96.spur and 55 pinion for a final drive of around 3.4 , my question would be should I use a bigger or smaller spur gear , I'm mostly looking for straight away speed , corner speed is good.

Remember this formula- spur divided by pinion x's internal drive ratio

96 spur divided by 51 tooth pinion = 1.88 X 1.94 internal =3.65 final drive ratio

What motor timing are you at?

EDIT: And do you have a good fan on the motor?

A good fan is Muchmore 40x40 on a MR33 Motor Heatsink or from Muchmore Head

Im running about 50 degrees of timing just past the last mark ( 45 ) and yes I have a WTF high volume fan , Heat is not an issue I was coming of the track below 120 all weekend with the above gearing

If it is a big flowing track, then you can get down to almost 3.0:1. For a tight twisty track I'd aim for 3.4:1.

I've seen it go both ways. 3.6-3.7 with 50+ timing, or even down to 2.8 with like 35*.

I've been playing around with my two Futaba servos this weekend, and notice both (9550 & 9551) have tons of travel going left, but not the same going right. To fix this I have pulled back the steering travel to the left. I have tried both aluminium servo horns and servo savers.

Now I think I have read in this thread about people having similar issues with Futaba servos and the 417. Is there a better brand of servo that gives more even travel than the Futabas?
