Thanks in advance!
diff2 drops in with no problems...

aside from HPI silver springs and the large diameter spring cups car should be good to go.

i remember having to cut some sections of the top deck for more flex and traction (some when to the extent of cutting the motor mount as well).

a floating servo mount could give the car a more "updated" look to (Smokem makes one without the peg so you don't have to drill a hole in the chassis).

Default Removal of Direct Coupling

Doing some routine maintenance on a 417 front direct pulley and was wondering if it's possible to remove the Direct coupling off the Direct cup without destroying the cup?
The manual on section 7 suggests to cut/remove the lip on the cup so the coupling can slide off.
Thanks
Fred

It is possible, but quite awkward. I replaced the Tamiya cups with aftermarket ones which tend to last longer anyway. Roche, Arena, Reflex Racing and others have options.

Other than that, I've regarded the standard ones as consumables

Phil.

Don't remove the lip fully.
Leave about 2-3 mm lip material on each half of the cup (opposite to each other).
To remove it, just compress the lips on both halves.

You should also try putty in your front gear diff.
It will react almost like a spool, but has more turn in and less wear!

You could also dye a white one on the stove with RITT (or similar) clothes dye like the OCD blokes/nerds on Tamiya Club do.

I've got a 417 with a smokem bottom deck running in 21.5 blinky novice.

Does anyone have or suggest a setup to use?

Thanks

Its a low grip track, some sort of painted surface on concrete slab.
The race is run in the evenings and its under cover.

I wasn't sure how the Smokem deck changes the behaviour of the car.
My two boys both run 417v5's in the same class and track if that helps.
Thanks

Amongst other things, check out Craig's setups here:
http://tchub.wordpress.com/category/setups/

Around Castle Hill, shortening the rear wheelbase helped my car get around the tighter corners pretty well.
