Going to be running 17.5 blinky or not depending on class running. I have an 87 (stock spur) and was trying to figure out a starting size for pinion. What FDR should I be aiming for? 4.00? I searched thru a few pages here and there but no real luck. Thanks.

Wheel chatter
Hi just wanted to see that it is normal to have wheel chatter even at about 70% DR.
Cheers |

A bit of wheel chatter is normal for running a spool, nature of the beast. The inside wheel chatters because it is locked and puts strain on the drive coupling in the CVD. I use Tamiya Anti-wear grease and it helps a bunch. There are other alternatives, but I'm sure the AE Area 51 guys are up to something judging by the new, larger openings in the caster blocks on the TC6.1 suspension.
Mike Thank you for your tips and info :) Cheers |
Just got my 6.1 kit. The box is tiny! And no cool box art :(. Oh well, it's what inside that counts, right?

Gear diffs - fluid
I am running on a medium traction tight carpet track. I want to try the gear diff so would 1,000 wt be a good starting point? I will run it with the spool but also considering testing with a front diff as well so is 500,000 wt a good start for the front?
Thank you |

So 4.00 FDR is what I'm looking to achieve?
If you are running open ESC 17.5 class, then depending on the track size, ESC setting and motor, but 6.5 FDR is a good starting point.... |
well im new to onroad and running the spool front and bell diff rear what are the advantages to running different setups?

Thank you My buddy is running a spool with 40wt in his with good results, also, but he is more point-n-shoot with his driving style. |

On our medium bite carpet track, I'm running 30wt AE shock oil rear, and 500k in the front. The car is dialed ;)

17.5 blinky mode, yep... different motors will be a tooth or 2 up or down from 4.0, but make sure you temp the motor at 3 mins.... just to be safe....

Do you have a part number for the 500K for the front? Many thanks.... B

We are driving on a high traction carpet. Tried spool vs. putty vs. front diff (600k, 500k, 300k). We all experienced the same thing leek of power out of corners and 0.4-0.5s slower times vs. spool. A lap is approx. 16s. Front diff is more easy to drive/consistent but the spool is faster and a little bit twitchy. Putty is somewhere in between.
This is our experience. Regards |
