glad all this excitement in this thread...but lets not loose focus....

you as a racer have a choice to pick whatever legal body you like...and not pick what you don't....no need to go any further than that....Ive run more RCGT and USGT bodies than I can count...and I still try different ones all the time....I don't have a body sponsor(hint hint) so Im free to pick and choose.....and most of you do too...

The best thing is companies are producing different bodies all the time for us USGT racers....thank you all for that...and keep them coming

now as I said before....

2016 USVTA Southern Nationals in Music City USA is less than 2 weeks away....come join us

whew!!!...plug plug plug

I wish I wasn't so busy at work. I'd love to come down and race with the big boys. Bummer.

Tamiya is an amazing company who's globally market is quite different that ours. They cater to primarily to enthusiasts and offer every part of the hobbyist "package" and at every price range. Tamiya's bodies reflect their marketing strategy.

However we at Protoform cater primerily to racers. Now maybe I'm a bit confused.....you guys do race these USGT cars don't you?

The Camaro and Cadillac bodies in question follow the letter of the USGT rules as written and also follow the design details and the "spirit" of the real 1:1 cars they replicate - otherwise General Motors would not approve them for licensing. The shapes/dimension are altered only to fit the common RC chassis width and wheelbase.

Now... the Tamilya bodies (the ones with "soul") are produced completely in a computer using keyboards and mouse-strokes. The actual molds are cut by some pretty amazing CNC machines. (envious here) Human hands are not a part of the process.

The Protoform molds since 1992 are made by me.... a human being. (probably debatable ) I spend long days in a one-man shop using hand tools. A typical USGT or touring sedan mold will take between 5 and 6 weeks to complete - but the licensing with it's inevitable delays will drag out the process much longer. There are 4 or 5 approval stages (hoops) we must go through. There's no shortage of passion "built in" to every Protoform mold....because I'm a auto racing fanatic and have been since I first learned to turn the pages of a car magazine.

I hope they never change to USGT rules to be based on the subjective opinions of a few. That would look waaaaay too much like today's political scene in the USA.

Dale Epp - Protoform Race Bodies.

BTW: the many pictures just posted in the last day show some AMAZINGLY beautiful cars! GREAT WORK by all you guys!
Dale thank you for your response.

Given all the different bodies and volume that PL/PF sell, you must be a extremely busy person no doubt.

I too also hope they never change the rules based on the subjective opinion of a few. However I hope they stay true to what was originally set.

I have loved race cars since I was a kid, and design them in Solidworks in my spare time.

Given how many you produce, I would guess that you would have a more " modern approach " to making these. ( See what happens when you assume. )

What you posted is incredible, hard to believe, but incredible non the less. I don't personally run them, but a lot of people do. I am sure that reply will strengthen your numbers.

I don't care much either way ( This is something to talk about, give an opinion, receive a response and learn something new as I did today )

My "soul comment" refereed to Tamiya creating these long before a USGT class was ever thought about and companies jump in to create bodies for. Over in Japan they have been racing classes similar to this for many many years. Growing up, they made some of the weirdest, most badass, craziest, best looking vehicles of all time. I can't think of another company that has done more for the RC world than Tamiya has over all these years.

At the end of the day we are racing Toy cars for bowling trophy's...

Keep up the good work, that is amazing..

Thanks

Correct It is the 2007, comes with the TB-03

When racing started, eventually your company released the PF8 and suddenly the field of scale GT bodies turned into a field of PF8 that resemble some sort of a GT, soon after that came another body, this time it resembled a door stop. GT8 today is filled with cars that resemble some sort of GT but nothing like its origin.

So again, nothing personal, you are a business man and are in business to sell rc race bodies. If your Ford GT body is 100% true to the real car, I would buy one. If its a tweaked to perform like the others, well then I’ll stick to Tamiya, HPI and Killerbody.
Since I, with the help of others, actually made up the rules for USGT, based on the remnants of RCGT, you do not have to worry about what happened to 1/8 gt happening here. 1/8 Gt bodies as a whole are horrible in my opinion (due to the wheelbase), and that will not happen here.

I still don't understand the complaints with the PF bodies. I have already rejected bodies that had very little resemblance to the actual car. The PFM is a Mclaren

Ahh but it it isn't. McLaren won't license it.

I love McLaren's cars but their licensing is obnoxious. There's still no 1/10th McLaren P1.

There are a couple ones that fit 1/8th and 1/12th. Not very scale-accurate unfortunately.

For now my little 1/14th licensed Miatso P1 will do for staring at.

I agree, a bowler would be envious of that.

[/IMG]I think the pfm nose looks like a ferrari 458 and the rear looks like a mclaren with an upside down side scalop. Love the looks though for an unlicenced body

Exactly. An unlicensed McLaren. Some things have to be sacrificed to avoid their wrath.

out of the bodies Ive posted above Ive found the Tamiya RX7 to be the best handling out of the box. Also I dont currently have a pic, but I did a tamiya SC430 that handled awesome.

Yeah but the PFM-10 isn't a McLaren MP4 or a P1. The front grill openings are wrong, the scallop on the side is wrong and the decklid is wrong. It's a made up car, shouldn't be allowed in a scale class. No offence to Dale his stuff is top notch, but this body isn't scale to any real car. The Caddy and Camaro on pretty spot on to the real race cars though.
