1. propeller joint B
2. spur mount
3. center cup

They will get spoiled if your track has pebbles & small stones.

Titanium steering turnbuckles
Spur gears
Diff parts

Well these are common parts I can get from LHS. As for the 3 items listed, my LHS has to make special order directly to Tamiya Japan. Eventually it took me 3 months in waiting.

What pitch spur / pinion gears does the Evo IV have?

Both of them are of 64 pitch. Pinion provided is 34T & spurs 90/96T.

These cars are rock tough. The Evo drivetrain became really good with the intro of the Evo 4. You'll actually learn that many Tamiya cars have similar parts. The Evo 4 shares some with the TRF415 and with the TA05.

In addition the TB Evo 5 makes good drifting machine. For touring it may not be forgiving in comparision with belt driven car like TRF415 & TA05. I had experience with torque steer. The workaround is just watch your fingers don't throttle too hard on the remote.

One more question. I will be running a 17.5 turn brushless Novak. The owners manual states I can safely have a final drive gear ratio of 4.5. That would mean I could use a 45T pinion with the 90T spur (final drive would be 4.59). That seams high to me. Is that correct?

My suggesting is you take the recommended gearing for a start. Just run around see if your ESC or motor does really heat up or not.

If you run 4.59 instead of 4.5 your car is slower more torque. Try reduce one pinion teeth at a time & observe the motor & ESC temperature.

My advice is always use the internal ratio provided on the car manual. For example TB Evo 5 int ratio is 2.437. Do you calculation you'll indeed get the correct and accurate gearing.

The Evo IV has an internal gear ratio of 2.294. That would make a 45T pinion the correct gear to stay under the 4.5 final drive but its just seems like a big pinion gear. I have never run touring car, been an off roader most of my time in RC. I will pick up a few different sized pinions with 45T being the largest and work my way up. That is, unless someone see some huge flaws in my thinking?

I guess you have to look at the track condition to set accordingly. If it's a small track with so many curves or corners. You surely need higher gearing. If it's a huge long track you can lower the gearing but do take note of the motor temperature as well ESC. The safest bet is to have cooling fan on both. A temp gun can be handy.

Anyone know why the Evolution IV is not discontinued and all the other versions of the Evo line are (i.e. V, MS, III, etc...)? When shopping for an entry level, high quality touring car, I found myself on the Tamiya website where I noticed the Evo IV discounted to $230. I figured this was a good deal for a high quality car. But being curious has lead me to wonder about the other models in the Evo line, especially the new versions of the Evo, like the V. I have seen that the Evo IV is still winning national level races in the stock class. Is Tamiya just trying to liquidate the remaining stock of Evo's or are they still popular enough to sell?

My Evo gets here tomorrow, and as much as I want to open it up and put it together I am honestly scared that in a few months I will not be able to find parts.
