I'm stocking up on replacement parts for my Evo IV. A 90T spur gear seems hard to find. TamiyaUSA has some but I was wondering if anyone knew of other manufacturers spur gears that would work? Robinson Racing seems to have some that look close but I'm not sure they would work. Suggestions?

any spur gear will work, have you stripped any yet? how many packs do you have on the car?
|
The kit came with two spur gears, a 90T and a 96T. I have not stripped any yet but tapped a wall and loosened the motor which caused a little wear on the gear. In a pinch I could swap the 90T (currently used) for the 96T and re-gear until I get a replacement.

Once done just manually turn the spurs see if any blockage. Else you need to loosen the motor & readjust again. |
Yeah, I know about aligning the spur and pinion gear. I was just wondering what other brands of spur gears would work with is this. Thanks.

Any brand of spurs will work eventually if u stick to 64 pitch. If you want to do mod just measures the spur & pinions to match up.

I have read that having a "one way" front end makes it harder to achieve controlled braking. Especially in panic situations. Does anyone have any suggest about keeping this in check to make braking more controlled? When I'm heavy on the brake the back end slides out.
I would like to thank those of you in this thread that have taken the time to reply to my questions. You have all been a big help. |
The problem with one way is more noticable at modify 4.5T motor going through corners. The car swings up front making braking harder. Hence you turn in larger circle.
To solve this prob use the TB03 direct driver (spool). The car stops immediate upon braking. |
I just ordered a TB03D Direct Coupling from Tamiya's website. Anything I need to know before installing this seeing how it's really for a TB03?

order some 10mm shims or whatever size it is i can't remember to shim the side-to-side play until you get the ring/pinion mesh perfect

Anyone know if the Evo V gear covers with fit onto the Evo IV? They look the same but I'm not sure.

If you shop for the part, the label would indicate compatible model u can use. You won't go wrong with that. |
