i have the square alum front knuckles and a buddy just bought me a pair of the square alum front hub carriers. if i were to crash badly, what would be then next thing to "give"? i recently had a freak accident with the car - the front right wheel axle broke in half where the swing shaft and axle meet (the cup) and it shredded the Square aluminum knuckle :flaming:
I just rebuilt it but am now wondering if if put the aluminum hub carriers on, what would break if i clipped a board pretty hard. would it transfer to the universal shaft and snap, or rip the gear box apart? i guess anything could happen, just wondering if anybody is using both

thanks

vic

The gearbox is safe because nothing actually bolts to it. What will bend/break next is the a-arm, hinge pin, and lettered blocks.

hey nguys,

i notice some slop in my front one way and my rear ball diff.......it moves from side to side......should i put shims on it or is this perfectly normal?

i read from somewhere that when tamiya engineers tested the evo 4 and the 415, the evo 4 came out faster....top speed was around 58mph!!!WOW!that is fast!!!

JimmyMac 12-23-2004 10:22 PM

It was 58km/h not miles per hour. And the 415 posted a better and more consistant time over an 8 minute session by several seconds. But the Evo IV posted the fastest lap time over the 8 minutes.

Yep, shim it just to where there is no play but does not bind at all. Also shim the output shaft/crown gear so it doesn't have play either. Keep care that the mesh in your bevel gears keep a tick of play (backlash) so your drivetrain will roll free. This will help to keep your gears from wearing prematurely too.

i guess that goes to show that the evo 4 is a really fast car....it might just be a bit harder to drive since it is shft.....

sorry for the mistake, i guess im used to seeing mph instead of kph.....:)
