What are some of the things one could do to free up the trans? Different bearings? Which bearings are the best on the market?

Squat Gold Racing Bearings or Ceramic Bearings;)

My drive is pretty free overall but I got the car used and not sure if all the bearing where sprayed out. I know I did most of them but I did put in one new 950 bearing and it is a sealed one and I know it is tighter than the others. It is still smooth and no binding. It really don't matter if your trans spins for 10 seconds or 30 seconds the track performance will be the same.
but walking around with your drivetrain still spinning is just so cool!

i opened up every single bearing and removed the seals on both sides.. blasted the heck out of it with motor spray.. then threw all of them in my integy bearing cleaner, filled it up with motor spray (jewelry cleaner) and left it there for 20 mins.

there are rumors (someone please confirm) that if you run your bearings without the seals, it'll be more free BUT maintenance is required more often.

If you are using the blue sealed Tamiya bearings then -yes - removing the seal will improve efficiency slightly..but...it will be very easy for dirt to enter the bearing, so not only will the bearings require more frequent cleaning - but as soon as any dirt gets in the bearing becomes inefficient and your advantage is lost.

What you can do is remove the seal from one side of each bearing - the side that is not exposed to dirt - this will free the car up a bit plus the ouside seal is still there to protect the bearing from debris.

Or you could use standard metal shieded bearings which are a little more free running because the shield doesnt rub on the inside of the bearing....but again, be prepared for more maintenance.

you have some serious time on your hands man:lol:

04 or 02;)

On ALL of my bearings, I have just removed the inside shield from the kit bearings and it is definately smoother. I am a little annoyed with the dirt getting into the bulkhead bearings causeing a loss of efficiency so I am going to move some of my ACER Ceramic Bearings across into it to try and get it going a bit better.

Thanks

Steve Wang

Email, right back atya!! :-)
