just put a slave motor in the car [silver can johnson] with the biggest pinion i can find in my tool box [47 tooth] and am now running in the transmission.
for the intial running in i kept it at 0.5v for 2 hours then stopped for 24 hours then run it at 2 volts for 2 hours and now its being run at 5 v for 2 hours.this is with out no wheels to reduce as much load from the bearings as possible.
even after the intial test at .5v the transmission freed up considerable.

I had a browse of Rainbow Ten's website and it's great that they have everything I want but I am having a hard time working out how to order from them. There doesn't seem to be any shopping cart or order button on each item, what the hell do I do??? Also does the titanium screw kit for the Evo IV replace every steel screw in the kit or does it miss some?

Turbonium 07-21-2004 07:04 AM

i think R10 uses the email format... just copy the lines you want and email. they will give you a total with shipping, i think. i have not ordered from them yet, but i believe this to be the way... i have also been talking to Champ, also in japan. they have a cheap price on the car... 28,800 JPY , 32,800 with Ti screw kit. silll trying to get a shipping quote from them, tho.. anyone else use them before?

Yeah I saw that too. Page 2 of their catalog, I think. 28,800Y is roughly $265 USD!!! Even w/ $50 (EMS) shipping it is still cheaper. They are a little slow on the email, but they ship fast.

Turbonium 07-21-2004 07:21 AM

i wouldnt think EMS is that high, tho... any idea how much the kit weighs? a 2.5 Kg (about 5.5 lbs) shows on R10 to be 42.

forty6 07-21-2004 07:24 AM

I know shipping would not be that high, I just did a worst case scenario. It will still be around $315USD. Here is the catalog page.

depends on how you pay in yen, the real exchange rate is more like 105, which makes the kit 275. the shipping cost is like 70, plus they charge you stuff like credit card charge or paypal fee. it all adds up.

forty6 07-21-2004 07:32 AM

Actually, the exchange rate as of this very minute is Y109.69 = $1.
I only did Y109 so you get the idea. If I pay by credit card, I usually get a good exchange rate. I don't think it would be $70. I ordered a nitro kit plus some parts which is much heavier and they only charged me $59 for EMS.

i would know. i just did it. you do get better exchange rates paying by credit card but they charge you 12% using credit card so you still come up with a final exchange rate of less than 100. as for shipping cost, it depends on the shipper, but certainly more than 50.

But the point is, it may list at Y28800 but it often is not cheaper to get from Japan.

forty6 07-21-2004 08:04 AM

When I ordered from them before I wasn't charged 12% for a credit card transaction. You are right though, if they are now charging 12% , it wouldn't be worth it. I am still waiting from an email from them.
