Chris.

Ha, ha, haaaaaa......

Hey OD & JRRC. We have lulled the unsuspecting Brit into a false since of superiority. Now when we knock him off the top, he will fall much harder!!

Oh, and by the way, Mr. Crimson Eagle, we are not going to share anymore of our speed secrets with you. The deal was that you where not supposed to beat us with our own tricks!!
It's too bad you are not coming up to the Ground Pounders next weekend. It's a two day race. Three qualifiers on Saturday, two on Sunday and the mains. You could come up on Sunday only and just use the two to out qualify us and take the win. You’re flying pretty high right now.

Sunday was one of the best days of 1/12th racing I have had in a long, long time. There was less than 3 hundredths difference between first qualifier and third. I can't wait for next month.

CEFX body.

Rake is flat, RH is about 4-4.5 (we have a transition from banked oval to flat so I have to run just a bit high so as not to ground out on the transitions. . .)

Car is pretty much hooked up, a bit neutral under mid and high-speed cornering but very controllable.

However, at the lowest speed portion of a turn, the car wants to pivot hard. It's like once it gets to a certain low speed, it catches and hooks hard.

That's about my only problem not driver-related! :D Any thing to look for?

Boomer...

Is the car diving in under deceleration and hooking? Or is it hooking when you apply the throttle coming out of slow corners? If it's the latter, try a little more caster or the next stiffer front spring. Or soften up the rear a little more.

Boomer 04-26-2005 12:14 AM

it's just prior to hitting the throttle.

the car turns in wonderful. It's great mid-corner.

It's just past mid-corner when I'm about to roll back on throttle. . .that's when it hooks.

Hi Crashby,

yes that was a whole lot of fun and easily the best asphalt race day I had by many times.

If you think I'm not going to do a little gloating after the grief you guy gave me on the driviers stand before the final you are sadly mistaken. The way you were driving it will be your turn soon, you were scary fast man.

We will see you guys next time around, I can't race twice in a weekend, that really isn't going to happen. My problem is, if you guys don't show at Ripon, there may not be any 12th scale there this week so I'm not sure what I'll be racing.

take care guys, I'll see you in a couple and we'll do it all again.

Chris.

I'm coming to Ripon with my JRX-S and 1/12th scale.

More caster, stiffer front springs and soften up the rear. You will need to play around with the setup in those three areas as some or all may be needed. If I remember correctly SoCal has pretty good grip. Remember that the more grip, the stiffer you can set your car up. That's why carpet only cars have thicker chassis due to the high grip.

I would first:

Increase the front caster
Then stiffen the front springs
Then soften the rear

It appears that all of the work we as a group have done, is starting to pay off in the fun factor. Our continued sharing of building, setups and ideas are manifesting itself in the performance on the track. There were four almost five of us that could have won on Sunday and the only reason the other two did not get into the qualifying "zone" that you, JRRC and myself were in was only due to lack of track time. The next time we are all on the track at the same time, it will be even more fun!! It also has to do with the track designs that Ruben lays out. I have always said that if the track has a maximum of 10 turns, the racing will be closer and that was the case on Sunday. When you go to a track and there are more than 10 turns, they field starts to spread out and there is less close racing.

Hey JRX-S Bill? Where the heck were you?!? You missed out on some big fun!

crimson eagle 04-26-2005 12:13 PM

Crashby,

I understand your reasoning there and yes Ruben and Charlie are more than capable taking the honors. It was a shame though that more of the carpet Rookie guys did not show up. The guy in the green car, can't remember his name, we need to give him as much encouragement as we can tou show the others that it isn't such a daunting thing. Maybe OD can have a sale of a couple of the 40 or cars he isn't going to use :D.

I certainly felt that racing Stock wasn't that slow even though it is a big open track. Then again i had a great day so I'm not the best person to ask. I wonder if Ruben has the results up yet, I want to check my laps :D

I didn't think I could have as much fun on Asphalt as I have been on carpet, but as usual, I was wrong again.

I'm a little concerned about Ripon this week as you guys are going to groundpounders. Hopefully we can get a heat running.

Chris

We may use our company airplane this weekend. Race at GroundPounders Saturday afternoon jet to Rippon and be back for GPs on Sunday. Nascar drivers do it all the time.

Chris......one more win and you have to run a transmitter with a steering wheel.

Results are up, but I get an error when I use the link.

Hey, Crimson Eagle!

We did not get to talk much after the race and I wanted to ask you how you liked that Niftech traction compound? Did you put any on the front tires for the main? Obviously it worked for you!

gotyournumber 04-26-2005 08:23 PM

Props to Chris. It should be fun having a good 12 scale field this summer. Chris i found my speed issue, it was not the motor. I was only was getting 4.0 volts to the motor. Oops.... You would think i would learn to check this in the few weeks i have been racing lol.

Jim,

I have been trying the wheel radio a little ..... But no. It isn't going to happen, I can't coordinate throttle and steering with that thing.

Crashby,

Yes I liked it, and no didn't put any on the front for the final. It seemed like very consistant throughout the whole run. I'm interested to see how it performs in the heat.

Charlie,

Yes that would definitely cause a problem. Didn't this happen to you not so long ago? Or was it Ruben?

I wanted to ask all of you what your tire wear was like? Mine was pretty ferocious, I was running pinks and purples.

Chris.

What gearing where you guys running?

crimson eagle 04-26-2005 10:55 PM

27/88 with fairly smal tires about 1.78". I tried taller gearing but it was just flat in the infield.

Chris.

I was running pink rears and purple fronts and yes, my tire wear was excessive. I did not have to change tires but I am pretty much at the minimum in the front after three runs. But they were not new in the front when I started. The Niftec works even better in the heat because it sets up quicker and you can do more applications and soften up the tires. That may be another reason we (OD, you and me) had so much tire wear. We were the only ones using the Niftec.
