JR 3650 is a great 1/12 servo, I also use it in my 1/10 pan car as well. Fast, and reliable. Should be had for around $60-80
I have run the Hitec in my 1/12, and they dont have a good mini servo for racing. I would stay away from them. Their larger servos are very good though. (In my nitro I use the HV 7940TH servo, simply amazing. )

I think if you compare the specs, you will see why the Futaba or JR are worth a bit more. Hitec makes some good stuff, but their mini servo is not on a par with the others. A 1/12TH car puts a lot of strain on the servo because of the extreme cornering speeds.
I would definitely go for a good servo. I like the JR,KO, or the Futaba. Centering has always been a problem with the Hitec servos and it makes for a car that wanders down the straight.

What about Savox? Looking at their website they list the SAVSH1350 as being comparable to the Futaba 9650 but $10 cheaper. They also have the SAVSH1357 which appears to be faster but not have as much torque. Both are the same price and I've heard good things about the brand in general.

a wondering steering servo is one of the biggest thing that deter racers from this class. it is soo important that the servo is acurate, that it makes the cars seam tweaked. i have seen many people shy away from the class because their cars just don't work well and it is usually a servo or servo saver.
You got that right. Years ago I got an airtronics servo on the advice of the hobby shop. The first few races it did just fine but then I started having a centering issue with it. I went through the car and found one ball end that was just a bit tight. The servo had so little torque that that was all it took to screw it up. Replaced that ball end and all was fine for one more race before it completely died. Slapped a 9650 in it and never had another issue. Had I been a noob, I probably would have slapped the whole rig on ebay and given up in frustration.
